If you were searching for a new job and had 3 interviews with different companies, the first one calls you back and offers you the job but you really would prefer one of the other two, would it be unprofessional to accept then unaccept if one of the other jobs offered you?

Why can’t you ask them for some time to consider the offer?

Take the first offer and leave if you want. Never assume the others will make an offer. It's your life. No regrets.

Tell them you'd like some time to consider the offer.

Ask them to have a few days to think about it. See how long the others will take to decide.

Ultimately you can do whatever you want as long as there isn’t some type
Of Employment contract. You do what’s best for yourself in any job related situation.

The company will fire you in a heartbeat if it serves them

So you've already interviewed with the other two?

You could say you need time to consider, but it's also perfectly acceptable to contact the other two orgs and tell them that you have an offer on the table and want to know where you stand with them.

Communicate with the company you want to work for and tell them as a courtesy that you’ve had an offer from another company that you’ve interviewed with. Explain that you really like their company and just wanted to get a status.

It's just business. That said, don't do it if you ever want to work for that company again.

Ask for 48 hours to decide

Call company you’d prefer and tell them you have another offer and have to give them an answer in 24

Don't do this.

Not every employer is some monolithic, cutthroat, man-behind-the-curtains entity that doesn't care about its employees.

Chances are it's some mid-level manager who's a just a regular, decent person trying to fill a role on their team. It's one thing to have a candidate renege on an offer, but it's a entirely different level of douchebaggery to start a job and then quit two days in because you got a better offer somewhere else.

Try and sort shite out with the other two orgs before committing to the one that has already offered.

Would be my route

And make sure you can talk with someone at the other two companies to really show that you want to be there and with them

Take the offer and if the others come through take your pick. Its business. They do not deserve anymore loyalty than they give and most companies give none because its business. At the end of the day you have one life and you have to do what's best for you and yours no matter how badly you'd like to do "the right thing". I have done it several times, have quit without notice several times, never prevented me from going back to the same employer. Its just business.

Ask yourself what would the company do IF something occured outside of your control which meant they weren't making as much money from your labor. They'd let you go with little or no warning. Its business. No one has any right to expect any loyalty...its business. The company may be the best company in the world but they are going to look after their own interests first and employees should do exactly the same thing.
