You will be close to Stillwater so you can go watch some college football games at OSU.

There is also the University of Tulsa, who opens up the season, I think against OSU. And plays ULL & Houston at home.

If you are a CFB fan.. that's something.

If Tulsa, hit up for even more money!

OK has state income tax, TX does not.

OK auto tags cost a fortune, based on the value of vehicle, like couple hundred per year last I lived there (moved 2001).

Other than that Tulsa is not bad at all. Plenty of clean clear water lakes in the area and even the river, that although a trickle usually, holds nice stripers. Loads of history around for wife and kids to get into, Indian Tribe stuff and the original Oil Barons.

Tulsa has a lot of Medical that was centered around 2 areas. The public schools in the suburban surrounding cities are supposedly decent. A lot of OK and OK St. QB's and such come from Bixby and Jenks.

Tulsa is what can be called a "planned city". Learning your way around will be easy once you get the hang of it. Downtown is the center of the compass. streets run N/S and E/W from there. S 11th E is one mile north of S 21st E. The N/S streets are alphabetical so Cinncinnati is 1 mile west of Denver and 2 from Elgin.

ETA: The Oklahoma reputation is based on the western part of the state. Tulsa is way more white collar and west of Stillwater is definitely more blue collar.

No state income tax in Texas and I assume my wife would be able to find a job easier and make more money than in Tulsa?

You list "Lawrenceville, GA". And you think small time from a poorer state. I understand since I have lived several places around the country.

If you take the lower salary it may take you 10 to 15 years to increase your salary to the higher salary.

Your decision is not about schools for a 3 year old or your wife finding a job.

Your decision is about making enough money to comfortably support your family without having to work 2 jobs.

I moved from Louisiana to Georgia then on to more expensive states. I was always behind the curve with living expenses because very few businesses will give you a huge raise. They will offer a 10% raise. Period.

Take the money and run! This is a great career step if you want to end up in management.

Otherwise, you will just be a common laborer like most employees in a company.

Lived in Owasso for 4 years. My wife worked in Tulsa/BA. 25 minute commute to work.

We hated the scenery, flat and plain. However the people are kind. The music scene is awesome. You would have major college and pro sports within a few hours any direction. The traffic is 100x better than Dallas. International airport at your fingertips.

120k is pretty good money in that area. Cost of living is very low. If you want land or property to stretch out, it's possible. Use the 120k as leverage for your next job/promotion.

I've got a family and would say that it's pretty safe place overall. Winters can be iffy when there is ice/snow. We still have friends we stay in touch with from OK.

TLDR. Did the Tulsa scene. Make your money. Good place to live.

I wouldn't talk about my money like that on here

That is very low rent and an obvious sign of new money

New money is just so gross

In a Chevy in a hurry in the pouring down rain, I'd go to Tulsa

I agree that's why I chose Highland park over new money locales like Southlake or Plano/Frisco

I would live in Tulsa for 10k more, its a no brainer.

only thing Dallas has going for it is sports. not worth the traffic. Fort Worth > Tulsa > Dallas

You would be the boss vs 30k less without much chance for moving up? Decision is easy imo.

I would take Dallas and have less stress/responsibility and still pay well and reap the benefits of Dallas. I see I'm the minority here but I'd rather be where I want to live, esp if your wife can work to make up the difference

Keep in mind cost of living. That extra 35k will go even further with the lower cost of living in Tulsa. It's more akin to a 50-60k difference.

This. Depends on where you live in "dallas" but that salary would be plenty.

But compare property taxes, sales taxes.

At one time I worked for the fed that had like interests in both a state income tax state and a non-state income tax state. Their pay rate was identical, regardless of state employed in.
Alabama has a state income tax, but it is typically pretty low, plus property taxes here are really low comparatively. You'd have to do your work to compare total tax burdens among municipalities.
