Jeff Landry’s LDWF

“The Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office is conducting a "workplace culture" audit of the agency, following complaints raised by employees during her first few months in
Louisiana's environmental agency, hit by top-level resignations and fierce criticism of its new leader, will now undergo an independent audit of its "workplace culture," including asking employees if they are concerned about unethical behavior or have experienced workplace retaliation.
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office will carry out the review of the state Department of Environmental Quality, which is led by former Donald Trump administration official Aurelia Giacometto, appointed by Gov. Jeff Landry. The survey comes two months after several high-level DEQ employees left the agency after clashing with Giacometto during her first few weeks in office.”
This is a repeat of what happened at LDWF eight years ago under JBE. When reform was resisted JBE cut and ran on his own people. It will be interesting to see if Jeff Landry sticks by his people to force reform on an agency the civil servants oppose.

Any word on exactly what those changes are?

Giacometto is there to boost her resume for a spot in Trump’s administration. She’ll be gone by early next year, whether Trump wins or loses.

When I see rank and file govt workers bitch and complain, typically it’s because they got used to doing nothing, and now they’re expected to work while they’re just trying to cruise to that pension. This is how you flush out the fat in govt.
I don’t mind it.

When you hire a bunch of useless grifters to powerful roles, they tend to let that power go to their heads.
This is why hiring incompetent political cronies is never a good idea.

Pretty much this. A twenty-something year old from Ohio with no experience or qualifications for the role. Just there to step into a federal appointment.

That's not what's happening at LDEQ, at least. The people the Secretary brought in haven't stuck around, either. What's happening is incompetence trying to rule by fear and mind games. Power trip. Bad person.
LLA is going to be auditing DEQ as well.

By coming to Louisiana's DWF?
She's already worked for Trump in 2020 in the federal WF level. If he likes her she'll get asked back for another job...

Giacometto isn’t at WLF, she’s at DEQ. WLF is being run by a 26 year old lady from South Dakota that was brought in due to her vast experience in dealing with pogie boats and bowfishing for redfish in that state.

If the game is just to collect a check for a year or two waiting on the next election wouldn’t the most prudent move just to appease the workers and do meaningless reforms on paper but keep things the same for the rank and file workers till your number is called for a larger position. That way you are scandal free.
So in other words don’t rock the boat.

This is 100% what is happening

There’s only so much change a department head can force. These agencies are set up based on rules dictated by the feds and the state. The processes that these agencies have in place, that the existing employees know how to navigate, are there for compliance purposes. When someone comes in who doesn’t know the rules and tries to force changes that ultimately are not possible, all it does is cause problems and lowers morale. I’d be inclined to side with a department head who has relevant experience and sees where improvements can be made as opposed to some 20-something with no experience who wants to come in, make a name for themself, and then leave for the next political appointment.
