I assume you are talking about the time Virginia declared war on Mexico?

Perhaps you should do more research.

If they touch old Jean's blacksmith shop, I will rage war on the streets of Nola that the boys from the melph would be scared of.

Meh, the flag should have come down. The motives in putting it up in the first place were less than honorable. There is a great memorial right next to it that was put up in the 1870s that honors the soldiers and their sacrifice.

You are right though, it is a good picture.

This is the problem with ignorant people. They lack the ability to view history with historical perspective. The men that these statues represent were fighting for America. They were fighting for the America they loved. Yes, they lost so in hindsight their vision is not what we now know of 'merica. No matter how deeply you plunge your head in the sand, history remains unchanged. Your pal Laffite, spent his "career" circumventing American laws for his own gain. Only when his customer base was threatened did he step up to defend it. He didn't suddenly decide to volunteer to build a naval fleet for government use. He was an excellent business man, but he was no patriot.

SC is my home state that I always had pride in that fact. The quick capitulation to the outside the state PC crowd and removal of the flag at the monument caused me to lose most of that pride, unfortunately.

I used to fly an SC flag on my house. I don't anymore. I wish it wasn't that way.

They will come for the monuments at the statehouse next. They already want Tilman gone...and sadly SC will probably comply.

Doubtful.

Doubtful, but Ben Tillman's history when it comes to race isn't exactly rosy.

No, Take it down, keep it up, whatever. Davis was a POS, but it doesn't really affect me. I wouldn't have taken in down of my own volition, but I understand why people want to have it come down.

So when the order to remove the statues is ruled unconstitutional, stupid and detrimental to tourism to New Orleans and Louisiana, AND when Mitch is no longer mayor, will these statues go back up?

No, but 21st century morality was not in place decades or centuries ago. Too many people are too dense to grasp that.0

Maybe seven people in the entire city wanted it to come down. The other 300,000 either didn't care, never knew about it, or wanted it to stay as a piece of New Orleans history.

Let's not forget the fact that these firefighters' jobs were threatened, and they were paid to work on a demolition crew out of city funds while they were supposed to be at the fire station.

Eta: If Lee comes down, I will never step one foot inside New Orleans other than school

Not sure if just a weird coincidence, but Jefferson Davis was captured by Union forces on May 10, 1865 (yes I know the statue was *technically* removed on the 11th.)

Good riddance. New Orleans has a lot of problems, but a shortage of idiots from out of town is not one of them.

Is this true? LOL if so. I knew this contractor was going to fall short in some way. I am actually surprised the bronze was removed without getting split in half or dropped.

OT Detectives: who is the crane supplier? Do we know yet?

I believe they wiped all equipment of markings (which is illegal). I also think they are using city bucket trucks

A lot of the people celebrating the removal of these monuments don't care that valuable city resources are being used. To Landrieu and his minions, they have taken the position of the moral absolute. And the ends justify all means.

I'm actually a little surprised that local investigators have not looked into the clear deceptive ways that Mitch has run this operation.
