Why not just get a CJ7 so you can say you have a real jeep?

Agree.

Still miss my CJ5. Nothing better for the woods or a weekend drive.

Never drove it to commute to work though. That would have probably sucked with the manual gearbox, lift, and oversized tires

I have owned
YJ
TJ
XJ
CJ7 - with a 360

And I really really want a 4dr hard rock although a Restored CJ Golden Eagle would be nice also.

Two years ago I was deciding between a pro4x xterra and a rubicon.

Got the nissan dealer down to 34k with everything in it under the sun and ordering the lift at their cost through them.

Was in the middle of test driving the jeep when the salesman asked what I thought. Told him I didn't like the price or the power and was leaning to the pro4x at 34k.

He responded with, I can do 34.

They will make a deal if you present other options.

Eta: 2 door rubicon.

Here is another option if you had not pulled the trigger yet, 5% under invoice for a JKUHR. Koons Jeep in VA does a group buy, but you would have to fly in and drive it home or pay to ship.

You can also use that as a bargaining chip with dealers

I think starting a thread with "random board: " is frowned upon, especially when it makes little sense. A board for a specific vehicle, as if.

It has 3 pages worth of responses, so I think it makes sense. I should also add it is a specific vehicle. Jeep Wangler Unlimited = JKU.

Sure there is something better... a JK. It will outperform the CJ in every possible way off-road and comparatively, it drives like a modern luxury car on road.

CJ7s are like wives and strippers. You're not going to get what you want until you throw some serious money at it.

It's unlimited because of the unlimited amount of time it will sit "buttoned up". Every 4 door jeep owner I know has taken the top and doors off only once since they bought it. Why? Because its a monster pain in the arse. They don't make half doors for the 4 door, so you have the 100lbs/door full doors. You'll get a soft top, but with the full doors, it's really just a big sunroof. Don't get me wrong, its a great rig. I just see people getting them so they can roll with it open and then realizing after one or 2 times that they should've just got a 4x4 cherokee with a sunroof.

What? It takes about 5 minutes to take the doors off. And they definitely make half doors for the JKU. I've seen a few guys in Baton Rouge with them.

I had a '80 CJ7 back in the early 90's with some of the same mods that an earlier poster mentioned that were on his but I swapped out the 304 for a 350.

I imagine you could build the baddest CJ on the planet for that kinda $$$$$.

Sure. But I don't want a heavily modded CJ as a daily driver.

ETA: Looks like this thread is now anchored

I talked to Craig there, without any haggling 5% under invoice (over 10% off MSRP). Every dealer I talked to in DFW do not believe it and will not even try to come close.

I think it is time for a family vacation to Washington D.C.

It doesn't take long at all to take the doors or the top off. I've had a couple rentals and have a friend with one. I built a rolling door holder and have a hoist setup for the top already. Won't take long at all to take the doors on and off at needed.

Also they make half doors for the JKU.

If I can use them to squeeze another 1k out of the deal I'll be happy with that.
