I’ll try not to get personal because I actually
Know the people in the article and I know for a fact they aren’t exaggerating. However you can chose to not believe me or them if it doesn’t fit your political narrative. That’s your choice. However, they are considering people elsewhere for certain procedures and the fact that they have to do or consider this shows the reality of the situation and that they are overwhelmed.

Except that Louisiana Department of Health shows they have beds available

How is staff getting infected if they are following protocol?
It’s what happens outside of work, not inside of the hospital. These people live in the community as well.

I sat in on the meeting yesterday with local, state and CDC officials as I do every morning. Here are few bullet points:
1) The Secretary of LDH wants schools shut down across the state. JBE disagrees. He's also pretty adamant that universities have to have fall sports in some capacity because of the economic affects it has on local businesses.
2) Avegno chimed in with her usual "we're all going to die" bullshite to back what Dr. Phillips was saying. She blasted Jefferson Parish schools for making their employees go back this week.
3) JBE is pretty content where we are and thinks we'll be in phase 3 soon unless the numbers go up again. He's shooting for after Labor Day to avoid any big gatherings that weekend. Don't freak out when he announces we're staying in Phase 2 at the end of the week.

Again, it’s not about beds but rather it’s about staff.

pretty much exactly what I've thought would happen

My sister works at a hospital in Lafayette and they are currently overwhelmed with Covid patients. Don’t have the staff to treat really anything else right now. I asked her if this thing will improve soon. She said the infectious disease doctor told them it may plateau or go down slightly but they expect it to get even worse once schools open up. Basically 2 weeks to a month after schools reopen they are expecting another surge. I asked if they should be believed and she said that they correctly predicted this current surge in cases so they’re mostly likely right unfortunately
Region 4 is elevated but not out of range of where it's been recently. (AH Datalytics). 4% ICU usage drop since last week.

Pretty much aligns with what she told me last week. She said the caseloads were still a lot but things seemed to be at least holding steady for the time being. Haven’t spoken to her this week. Again, hopefully the infectious diseases doctors are off the mark about the surge in about a month.

Are the staff just infected with minor symptoms or are they dead or in need of hospital care?
Same as most people, some very minor and some worse off than others. But regardless of symptoms, they don’t want a Covid positive person at work so it takes away workers that they desperately need.

Those charts are cute bits it’s not about beds. My sister said they don’t have enough staff. You can make as many icu beds as you want but they don’t have enough staff to treat the patients.
So you admit they aren’t overwhelmed with a Covid patients they are overwhelmed with staffing issues

Didn't they just create a policy last week where nurse managers will have to work staff shifts "if" they are short staffed?

Again from AH Datalytics.
7 day averages for Lafayette Parish:
July 14th, 2020: 1,227 cases (7-day total), 14.8% positive average.
August 3rd, 2020: 535 cases (7-day total), 7.2% positive average.
Obviously hospitalizations will tend to linger longer, but Laffy should be getting a bit of a break soon.

They need to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. Those workers should be back soon and then have an extremely low risk of getting infected again anytime soon.
