re: JBE: "one of the most significant economic development announcements in Louisiana history"

Is it a distribution center or is it the HQ2 they've mentioned?
they already prematurely announced a distribution center here in Louisiana. It's most likely that JBE backed off his initial comments bc the deal wasnt finalized. I assume the deal has now been finalized and ready to be announced. Assuming where he is making the announcement means that it will be located in NOLA.

The governor "misspoke" in September about Amazon building a distribution center, but aren't those a dime a dozen?
Yeah, but not for Louisiana.

An Amazon warehouse is one of the most significant economic developments in Louisiana history? If so, jeesh, what a dump.

even if it is an Amazon warehouse, I dont think it would qualify as one of the most significant economic developments in Louisiana history

Apparently Amazon didn’t pick San Diego after all so that’s still in the running. I don’t see it happening but hell that would be big.
Amazon HQ2 is not likely.
I'm not even sure south Louisiana wants it. A lot of people born and raised in Seattle have mixed opinions on its impact to that area's costs of living, culture, and politics. I hope that it is a big project though.

Unless we're just talking about economic impacts and not actual price tags for the project.
I would imagine economic impact more than price tag, unless they are building a new building, which even then wouldn't touch those numbers.
A couple thousand more professionals with disposable income who pay taxes would be huge for the city.

A) Amazon HQ2 is less likely than not likely.
B) Refusing it (if it was a possibility) would be full retard.

And that's exactly why Louisiana is near dead least in every metric which means anything

But but but it would change the culture of blight and unemployment. Stay away Amazon.

It's way too early for an Amazon announcement for any city. I think the due date on submission was mid-late October. While it would be great for NOLA, there is absolutely no chance NOLA lands Amazon HQ2.
This is most likely a tech company relocation/new location with 2k-3k new jobs over ten years.
Just to put that in perspective, CSRA in Shreveport and IBM in Baton Rouge promised 800 new jobs each. So a 2k-3k number would be huge for the city/state

This is what I am thinking. Google putting some research branch here would be amazing at this point.
If it is about the shipyard they should announce it at the shipyard because those dollars are heading to the burbs and not the city.

Is this even accurate? Am I wrong for thinking that Amazon distribution center employees would resemble Wal Mart employees? Low wage jobs just driving forklifts and putting stuff in boxes?

From the advocate:
"a newly formed company that has acquired parts of the Hewlett-Packard company will be relocating to New Orleans and providing about 2000 new tech jobs."

That's what I thought. Maybe 50 management and engineer level jobs.
