Really needs to be a separate thread though, right? Mixing Vegas here isn’t productive.

There's another one that was for that. Find it an bump it.
There doesn't seem to be much coming out now with Bourbon Street, though...

Yup, it’s been running low since yesterday.
I guess the return to the Houston house and the detaining of that dude we still know nothing about is a development though.

Why do I need to find and bump threads for you so you can keep topics grouped?
This thread doesn’t have to be on fire 24/7. It should have lulls. Those don’t need to be filled with unrelated content.

Jesus…
YOU were asking for it, that’s why.
Sometimes threads meander, it happens. It doesn’t mean the main topic is lost, but maybe there was a connection and it deviated for a moment.
If you want to post in the LV bomber thread, then feel free to do so. My comment wasn’t flippant - was just offering a suggestion.

Todays bollard updates:
Old system was rated for 15k lbs vehicles at 40 mph
Incoming system is for 5k vehicles at 10mph
So an EV is already too heavy and would give acceleration that quickly defeats it.
Essentially a visual deterrent more than anything - stopping confused tourists from turning onto the street, not any attacks.

That has to be made more public. Media needs to catch wind of this.

Anyone know where the whole Ryan interview with Sarah Adams can be sound? I find clips .. lots of clips.
Also — my vague understanding is that she is former cia. How does a former cia asset talk of these things and remain alive??

This is incredible. Raises the potential for copycats.

It’s no secret among those who know me that I despise the city of New Orleans because of the crime but my wife and I spent the night on Bourbon for our anniversary in the summer and again December 27th and I was starting to really enjoy it again. Now that this happened, I really want to go back to show support and spend money in the economy but seeing how the city let tourists down with the pisspoor placement of police cars where the bollards were being replaced and now seeing how they’re replacing them with lower quality bollards it doesn’t give me confidence that we would be safe while there due to a concern over potential copycats.
The city has to do better. Hopefully the state gets heavily involved and steps in.

I loved living in New Orleans, but that was a long time ago. The biggest news at the time was purse snatchings in vehicles at red lights and stop signs. We went to the FQ all the time. Loved being on the balcony of the Royal Sonesta on Mardi Gras night at midnight when the street cleaners would come to clean the streets. There was someone on a loudspeaker saying something like "the Mardi Gras season is officially over. Please clear the streets.".
When we go now, we stay at the Windsor Court. We go to the FQ if we are eating at a restaurant there and we usually just go to the restaurant, eat and leave the area when done. If we eat lunch there, we might walk to Jackson Square to look around a bit, but that's the extent of hanging out there.
I don't know if the city was trying to save money when they made that decision to put in the less secure bollards, but what a dumb move even before this tragedy. Doesn't have to be a terrorist who runs them over. Could be a drunk lost tourist not knowing what they're doing. People do drink a lot there and that could be a good reason alone to have strong bollards in place.

I’m not trying to support them, but there’s not a lot of places where you could have significant speed and hit those bollards. Canal st entrance is one of the only places and that’s a busy road with traffic almost 24 hours and still a tight turn. Bollards can be placed in rows or other configurations to align so a vehicle wouldn’t just hit one, but likely multiple. I’m not quite sure why the sidewalk and outsides couldn’t have strong fixed ones and the inside lane removed for temporary traffic like deliveries and emergency vehicles couldn’t have multiple levels of weaker and lighter ones that are easily moved by man power but in conjunction offer very strong support.
Even on the canal street entrance, it would be difficult to have much speed especially for a larger vehicle as it’s a tight street. An emergency vehicle or patrol car should or would likely be parked at the entrance of Canal either way and that adds a level of security. The inside streets are all very tight, it would be very difficult to hit them at any speed especially with larger vehicles.

For NYE or Super Bowl yes.
For Saturday night - frequently no

Honestly why do you say that? Not trying to argue, but I would think a police officer on that intersection could be easily justified every night. How many officers are assigned to the FQ nightly even on say a Tues? The officer doesn’t even have to be in their vehicle, they could be just parked there and patrolling.

Not 100% sure, but you can probably drive down Bourbon right now. Traffic was allowed yesterday morning.
Most nights are pretty lax and not wall to wall people on the street.
