This is pretty much the going theory of those I talked to. Some form of it anyway. Either he was going to stop short of where he placed the explosives, open fire to drive people that way and detonate, or detonate them first and in the chaos open fire.
That is why he said the crane stopping the truck and the NOPD officers opening up on the guy is what saved a lot of lives.
My buddy said if he has done this at midnight or 1am, there were a lot more families in the area, and a lot of really young kids could have been victims.

Today is the day I've found myself moving on from shock to pure anger. I'm so pissed at this mother fricker. Terror attacks elsewhere are tragic and angering but this one being in our backyard in a place that we've all been to so many times and one I was all over just a few nights before feels way more personal. Maybe that's just me but this one feels personal to me even though I didn't know any of the victims.
Just frick this guy. I hope he was stuffed with pork loins and wrapped in bacon then tossed into the river at Jackson Square. I want Trump, after being sworn in, to go scorched earth on ISIS now. I want anyone who may have been involved in this with him to be caught and hung in the French Quarter. I want revenge.

Well he’s in hell now to where he’s getting worse than that.
Whatever it is is not enough. Brains were literally scattered on Bourbon Street with mangled bodies of recent high school and college graduates for crying out loud. I'm getting all worked up right now just typing it and thinking about it. frick this guy, frick ISIS, and frick anyone who doesn't want to run through a brick wall right now for America. I'm shocked at how angry I'm getting over this.

He said in social media videos that he originally planned to attack his family and friends, but instead opted to target the French Quarter so news reports would focus on what he termed the "war between the believers and the disbelievers," the FBI said Thursday.
More you read about this guy, the more you realize he was just a fricking loser who blamed the world for his shortcomings.

He was radicalized by someone. Something or someone resulted in him converting to ISIS membership, which is how ISIS has carried out attacks on foreign soil. They don't really send their fighters elsewhere to carry out attacks from what I've observed.
Yes, he was a crazy loner who had issues but he became involved with someone or something that led to him becoming part of the ISIS militia group. Let's not forget or lose sight of that. Loner or not, this was a terrorist who claimed membership of a major terror organization and someone else was responsible for that. There needs to be a further investigation so we can bring people to justice.

Also, probably been covered, but have they said why they've erased these videos from public existence? Scared they'll motivate/inspire more attacks?

As with most of these people that aren't born in radicalism, he was a out of options in life. Twice divorced, children taken from him, in financial ruin. He turned to Islam and then turned to radicalism. I agree someone had to bring him into that circle of radicalism, but he was seeking something because he was a failure in life and wanted to blame others for that failure. Just an evil, pathetic loser.

Was it ever confirmed they were posted? I thought the original story said they were just on his phone.

I thought the press conference said he uploaded them to Facebook? Maybe just to a private group and have since been removed.

I mentioned this podcast yesterday. I was driving a bunch this morning so I got to finish it. Im no political/foreign expert or anything, but its good insight into what is actually happening. Shawn Ryan has been mentioned a lot lately. I dont follow him, I only listened to this because someone posted some things that Sarah Adams said and its eerily similar to some of the current events going on. She's done some other podcasts, Ill probably give those a listen as well.

NOPD officers that mag dumped
I had been waiting to see confirmation on who was actually responsible (whether NOPD, State Police, combo). Good for NOPD.

I just watched an interview of Tiger Bech's father and brother. Gut wrenching, seriously from the pit of my stomach to my throat. The pain is palpable.

I'm glad the guy is dead and burning in hell, but I sort of wish he was surviving in a world of everlasting pain and then locked up where he wouldn't last very long.

How much do you want to bet that he’s spoken to zero family members of those killed on New Years?
Isn't he flying in the next day or so?

That stupid crane had been there for at least couple of weeks, blocking off that portion of Bourbon (I distinctly remember thinking, surely they will get this moved for New Years/Sugar Bowl!). How did he not notice it when dropping off his “bombs”?

I question whether he knew that equipment was there. He didn't get very far down Bourbon. I'm thinking he didn't expect it or do the research to know it was there.

SenileJoe? Monday is the day.
Hope he doesn't screw up rush hour traffic.

I think this is the truth.
Or.... fly down Bourbon, running over as many people as possible, then detonate the bombs once he passed (killing more civilians + preventing any pursuit) and escape in the ensuing chaos
Still doesn't make much sense why he chose to do it at that particular time, though.
