frick the flu. frick bronchitis. I've been fighting this shite for going on three weeks with no end in sight.

Every time I feel a little better and try to work, I'm sick as an old dog the needy day.

Anyone else suffering?

Went around shreveport a few weeks back. I somehow avoided it, but most of my coworkers and family had it.

Sucks.

From what I was told, the strand of flu going around wouldn’t have been prevented with the flu shot this year

I’ve never had the flu, and prior to joining the military, had never had a flu shot.

I feel your pain. I just finished three solid weeks of flu and bronchitis. Yesterday was the first day I felt fully recovered.

As far as the flu shot discussion, my wife had the flu shot and was only down for a couple of days. And she never got all that sick. I skipped it and went down for the count. I'll be getting it next year.

Exactly opposite of the people I know who had the flu. But the really bad strain of the flu going around was not in the flu vaccine for this year so that could still happen. Additionally, when you get the shot it takes your body roughly 1 week to generate the appropriate antibodies to successfully fight of the flu.

Generally, people who have had the flu shot and still contract the flu have shorter and less severe symptoms, even if the particular variant of the flu is not in the flu shot.

The flu shot is not causing people to be on ventilators.

85% of the pediatric flu deaths this season ...did NOT get the flu shot btw.

I got the flu shot...work in a hospital and have not gotten sick.

Correlation, causation - not the same. I suspect there is significant overlap among those that got the flu, regardless of the shot, and that's where to look.

I suspect you worked in that setting before yearly flu shots, which would bring the chain of causation into play. But, maybe not.
