It's interesting how things enter the cultural Zeitgeist like that . My 13 had to eat at In and Out burger for the same reason. Some brands just become the "kitsch " place to go, like everybody is aware of the irony of it . I think Bucees has that brand energy now. Of course we are going to stop at Bucees kids, dad needs to take a nuclear dump anyway and you can go get a ten pound bag of jerky or trail mix and a framed print of a bear in a Texas shirt. It just becomes part of the trip.

Grocery stores genrally have shite margins though, and really tough inventory overhang that spoils. I'm also thinking in terms of the huge overhead just associated with an operation that massive. They are clearly doing something right though, if they are expanding at the rate they are.

But they don't really sell produce. They stock junk food, jerky, pickled stuff and have a deli that mainly sells breakfast food, simple sandwiches and BBQ.

I have to imagine the deli is down to science with the turnover

Anyone remember going to tourist traps back in the day and they would put bumper stickers on all the cars in the parking lot?
Rock City, was famous for this back in the day.
I remember it used to piss my dad off.

Their locations on the way to Houston and Dallas are perfect for people coming from NOLA for first fuel stop.

The Buc-ee's sticker looks good next to my Yeti and 30-A stickers and truck nuts.

Is anyone going to investigate the claim that you get cheaper gas with a sticker? Sounds like BS, but people having the stickers would make more sense if it was true.

I have a Buc-ees t-shirt. We were driving from Houston to Nola, and I was teasing my wife because I didn't get a birthday present. She came back with an LSU tumbler, a Buc-ees t-shirt and some other crap and said "Happy birthday."

False.

There is a bucees reward card that gives you 25 cents off. Maybe it comes with a sticker.

They have the best beef jerky.

Never had that but do always have to stop in for a pulled pork sandwich and piece of fudge whenever I pass one. Also they have those big rolls of smarties that are almost impossible to find!

I have a Buc-ees shirt

I live in NOLA

It is by far the most popular shirt I wear. Every single time I wear it somewhere, people ask or comment about it.

Their prices are a premium to grocery store prices. Their margins are a better percentage AND they have a high inventory turnover on food and drink... which negates most spoilage issues. And 2/3 of their store is not food.

When you have high expectations, you can pay more, and you get more. They aren't hiring the same people as your average Popeyes

I've been to Woody's once driving from Houston to Dallas. I'm going to have to agree with you on it being the GOAT.

Stopped there once. Wasn't impressed.

Will vouch for the jerky. It was good.
