Even the biggest Houston area teams don’t do that

They don't need to, but they do anyway. Denver and CO Springs two weeks apart? Yep. Arizona, Nevada, California, yep (scattered across 3 years so far, with expected DFW/Austin trips in between.) I doubt the coaches want to deal with that shite, but "mama bears" are convinced if you're not leaving a state with 31M people to "find competition," then Braxtyn will never get a scholarship to a DIII school.

Mine plays travel baseball but also Biddy Basketball and a tackle football league in the fall. He just turned 9 but alot of you have the misconception we all spend lots of money and play all year. That is not true as all of our tournaments are within 2 hours of our house and we play 8 tournaments in the spring. We do not play in the fall so that the kids can also play basketball and football. It doesnt cost me a fortune as alot of people say and we will not buy a single hotel or go out of state. He will even play rec ball but miss some games so he can play with his friends on the all star team. We do practice every other week in the fall on a Sunday so it keeps them sharp and their skills up a bit.
What travel ball does give them is the chance to be on a team where they are probably not the best kid like rec ball. I had people that played college tell me that you should never be on a team or a league where you are the best player as nothing will drive you to improve and I think that was some pretty good advice.

Lacrosse from high school to upper elementary. We could do fine staying in Texas, but can't have that. Who really, really wants to drag all that shite to Palm Springs, Vegas, etc? And for what, so we can meet the kids on the one team from New Mexico, and the three teams from Dallas we have already played ... in Dallas? It's B.S.

NAIA have incredible opportunities for great competition with decent academics. 88MPH for pitchers at DIII is the minimum.
I read this and didnt really agree, I looked up the D3 All Americans and not one of them was sitting at 88 in their senior year of HS. Most were sub 85 on first and second teams. I mean my kid is a soph and not starting in HS and never attended a PBR or other event....has played showcase stuff and has been contacted by D3 programs. These coaches sent communication via social media off of Twitter video, so not a big scouting budget. But I whole heartedly agree that these programs offer some really nice opportunities for kids that just want to continue playing and who knows, maybe the light bulb goes off and they can transfer to bigger program at some point.

Yeah, doubtful he was going to want that scholarship to Wabash University of Eastern Indiana. Highland Park probably meant he was an Iron Horse kid, who are heavy pay to play (10X the cost the us proles spend on just being a member of the club, before travel costs.)

The cost makes high-level baseball into a very exclusive sport at a young age which has the effect of fewer and fewer lower income kids playing baseball.

Some people see that as a bad thing.

Which is why less Americans will play and we will lose the sport to Puerto Rico, Cuba, etc. If we havent already.

Theres no travel ball there and their kids are better than our travel ball kids.

yea they just use the academy model where they are shipped off at 10 to live, go to school, and train 6 hours a day.

its not a bunch of kids playing street ball

Going back and looking at my post, it is a bit confusing and didn't convey the message I intended.

What I meant to say, after high school, JC and DIII and/or NAIA are good options to get developed to feed into D1. For DIII pitchers to get good looks from D1, they need to be a polished 88. Originally, I had the first couple and last sentences of that paragraph and then I added the middle sentences about JC/DIII. Made the paragraph confusing/disjointed.

Sorry.

The biggest take away, high schoolers wanting to jump into D1 need to understand, they aren't competing for spots with other high schoolers. They are competing for spots against 20 and 21 year olds with 2 or 3 years of college experience.

Sure. No travel ball because they don't have the numbers.

What they do have is super-competitive, all-life encompassing baseball academies that demand baseball is priority over school, family, everything.

I enjoy travel baseball. My son has fun. I enjoy the parents that we play with. He'll be making the decision this spring on travel soccer or baseball. Don't think we'll be doing both.

All the negative people regarding travel sports I'm sure are pissing away the same amount of money on other things.

It all ends right before hunting season and cranks back up right after so it is perfect for my lifestyle. Just fricks with my fishing.

I don’t understand why the argument here has to be an either or thing with rec or travel. My kid and every kid on his team play both travel ball and rec park ball. I’m sure that is the same for a great number of kids throughout the country.
