So what’s the point of this thread and why do you care so much about what goes on in New Orleans when you live 45 minutes away?

Didn’t you have a melt when someone started a California weather thread?

And here you are getting melty over a LA weather thread.

In Vegas determining if their flood controls could be useful on NO

Fun fact Vegas has a few drainage canals.

And sometimes it floods on the strip.

Lakeview is not a priority for the city despite the amount of property taxes that come out of the area

It’s almost like the city is actively trying to drive y’all away.

Bad faith argument, This has been happening before and likely after.

Most excellent point. After Katrina Orleans and Jefferson parishes received FEMA money to rebuild drainage systems and infrastructure.
Jefferson doesn't have drainage problems every time it rains. So who is responsible for Orleans problems?

Everything is completely dry now. The pumps did what they were supposed to do.

I remember a day not too long ago where coastal erosion had people all across the state worried about New Orleans. Now I think people are hoping that NO gets washed away.

This was about as bad as I’ve ever seen flooding from just a rain event.

Also, lookatthisfrickingstreet is a god damned national treasure.

FEMA did invest a lot in both, but NOLA's drainage problem isn't a small fix. And it hasn't been for a while. It's a multi-billion dollar investment that no one wants to address or even talk about.

The Corps has invested a TON in both parishes, but the NOLA started in the 90's from massive flooding events then. Estimated $1.5B since 1996 to completion from this presentation on the USACE website: https://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/Portals/56/docs/SELA/SELA%20Algiers%20-%20Wall%20to%20Behrman%20Presentation%202019-11-21.pdf?ver=2019-11-22-153907-013

There's maps on here that show they didn't even touch Gentilly or Lakeview in these projects.
