The CME(s), even if strong still have to be pointed at us, right?

Grok says there is about a 5% chance that a CME will be directed towards earth.

And? You seem to be fear mongering, why?

So correcting someone using general information from an ai with facts of what happened is fear mongering?

Get a grip. As for title of thread, this is the OT. Yall love your over embelished thread titles.

We’ll know more when it reaches the observatories.

This is a good Xwitter thread:

Right now, there are some sunspot groups on the Sun facing the Earth. Specifically, AR (active region) 4100 and 4099 are directly facing Earth and magnetically complex, harboring potential for solar flares and CME eruptions...

quote:

Around midnight UT on May 31, an M8.2 solar flare occured from AR 4100, launching a shockwave through the solar atmosphere and CME out into space. Due to the position of the active region, this CME is heading directly at Earth.

quote:

The eruption was stunning with one of the best Earth-directed CMEs I have personally seen this solar cycle. For anyone not in the community, we have seen lots of activity in 2025, but most of it has been directed away from our planet. This was a nice change of trend

quote:

In coronagraph imagery, the CME appeared as a FULL HALO! This meant it was coming right at Earth. Since these cameras are close to Earth, anything coming right at us will expand around the occulting disk like a halo, hence the term "halo CME."

There is some pretty cool imagery with the different tweets.

Yup, been perusing that one and a few others.

This lady had a lot of it on her youtube stream earlier. I had never seen or heard of halo eruptions before.
