Reading about that airbus jet going down because the pilot was able to break off the tail because of rudder inputs is mind blowing. Airbus’s literally are made to keep pilots confined to certain situations. Can’t believe this was able to happen.

Think the rudder on the airbus was made of a composite while Boeing wasn't. So had they been in a Boeing the rudder likely wouldn't have broken off.

There's something harrowing about the thought of being in a plane that loses control and knowing your death is imminent, but having to sit there and wait for it...

Exactly and that’s why I’ll never do it again. I can drive or cruise to every destination I’d ever care to go. I know the risks are much larger driving a car but at least you’ve got a chance in a car crash.

I take roughly 60-70 flights a year. I try my hardest not to think about shite like this.

I couldn't believe that assembly broke off that easily.

I thought those were used for cargo.

I figure TWA800 and American 191 are probably up there.

Was that TWA flight the one that crashed in the Everglades?

Edit. It was ValuJet

No that was the 747 that was shot down off of Long Island in 1997. I mean it’s fuel tank exploded.

Computer assisted flying has likely helped a ton to reduce crashes. Pilots still have to be able to take over the controls but it’s way easier to fly now than it was 20 years ago

The Boeing 737, rudder would stay on all the way to the scene of the crash which was cause by excessive rudder control input force causing loss of rudder control. I think it caused at least 3 crashes including a Alaska Air flight that went inverted and could not recover.off the west coast

It’s amazing that a chartered plane carrying an NFL, MLB , or NBA team has not crashed.

You're the guy who brings up a kicker's hot streak right before a potential game winner, or a no-hitter going into the bottom of the ninth.

My uncle is a pilot for United Airlines. Talked to him this morning. He was headed to Denver for three days of training. He said for three days it’s all engine failures, water landings, emergency landings, smoke in the cabin, you name it nothing but emergency after emergency. He said when he gets home he sleeps for two days
