I’m 44 and drinking my coffee this morning reflecting about how fast the last few years have flown by. And here we are barreling towards Christmas and the end of the year again. I try to enjoy every day but sometimes I wish I could tap the brakes a little.

It still seems like we just finished Christmas and here we are a few months away

When your daily routine is the same, it makes it much worse.

The only things I have found that can occasionally slow down the perception are mixing up routine, trying a new thing, or going on a diet.

I'm convinced the people that job hop every year or move every few years do it just to slow their perception of time.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

At work, we always have some project due date speeding toward us. That makes time whistle by at an alarming rate.

It is only going to get worse as you continue to age, not matter how much you focus on enjoying the moments. The older we get the quicker it goes. Our brains have to process and retain many more events as we age. Brains also have to process new information and create detailed memories. This slows with age. When the brain takes in less information, a given period of time feels less significant, making it seem shorter. Every year becomes a smaller and smaller portion of our overall lives. Elementary-high school seems like a very significant portion of our lives, college years seem to have lasted a lot longer. By the time we enter the workforce twenty year periods fly by.

Each year represents a lower percentage of your life now. When you were 10, a year was 1/10th of your life. Etc.

68 here. Time is flying by. Just a PSA for you young folks, Do your living, traveling, etc. while you are young. Don’t put off living until retirement. You may not be able to do the things you want to do in old age. Live while you’re young.
