Water is wet.

quote:

Louis Armstrong International Airport's move to a new terminal on the north side of the airfield will be delayed until May, or one year after the original plan, according to a source with knowledge of the new date.

That would mean the transfer to the new terminal would occur after the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival -- a big tourist draw -- ends on May 6. Airport officials, who would not immediately discuss the issue Thursday morning, had planned most recently to open the new terminal on Feb. 20.

The latest postponement was occasioned by the need to install another sewage pipe at the new terminal after unsteady soils caused the original one to shift below ground. The cost of the fix will be $7.5 million, officials have said.

They should have just called that baw that has his granny yelling at him all the time. Probably could have done it cheaper and faster.

No competent Contractor pays sewer lines without a soil testing company testing the soil and stopping that from happening.

According to this board, they don't even have a road going to it so maybe kicking it in the old terminal for a while longer isn't the worst idea.

In fairness, Landrieu Sewer Lines, Inc. is still a little new at this.

Shouldn’t the contractor cover this cost?

1. Do job wrong, get paid for it.
2. Re-Do job correctly, get paid for it again.
3. Slip cash to Landrieu family under the table for original contract.
4. Profit.

And a LOT of sand and fill was brought in on this job BEFORE construction. The engineers were ok with what they had and the GC brought in a buttload more sand because they werent satisfied with what the engineers were saying.

Prediction: the new terminal will have the permanent strong smell of raw sewage.

The virtues of Design-Build construction where the Gov't is the client.

I've also heard the two General Contractors on the building because one GC isn't enough screwed up the dimensions and now all of the restaurants that signed leases are crunched so tight together that some of the kitchens won't work. Tack on another $20 million to fix that problem.

In other news, an ambulance was called to the engineering firm that designed the Baton Rouge Library after two project leads passed out from laughing.

One thing not mentioned was the original plan called for two concourses. A third was added after construction started. Cheaper to build it now than add on later.
