The study blames low wages, hurricanes, and inadequate social programs for reasons why people struggle.
Of course. Bad life decisions have absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, to even mention that possibility would be cruel and unjust.

Yeah. Raising the minimum wage and government funded programs are not the way to go. We need to use that money to up the infrastructure in BR to attract more companies to come in, therefore creating jobs. Just raising the minimum wage does nothing. Your service at gas stations, fast food places, and places like Walmart will not go up in quality. It will stay the same and cost more on your end.

Same, I have to have my phone and data plan for work. Internet at home is probably a convenience, because although I do work from home a lot I also have a work supplied MiFi.

You might want to re-read the article
quote:
"A family with two adults and two children must take home at least about $63,648 each year to be economically secure;"
I don't think it is really all THAT unreasonable that two adults have to take home roughly $31,500 per year to live a "modest but dignified" life. Plus, what is the definition of a "modest but dignified" life?

hate to sound OT, but there's a number of things to do to bring that in, my cleaning lady earns more than that, way more when you consider it's all cash and she's an illegal

yep, my daughter's job is heavily reliant on that, and they pick up the tab, in fact IT is constantly upgrading her phone and laptop to make sure everyone's up to speed

Yea, it really is. Especially in fricking Louisiana. The problem here is they're judging how "dignified" someone is by how new their "things" are.

You think it's hard for two people to make a combined $30 an hour?

He should have said Mercedes or Porsche.

Well that's the problem here. There is no definition. It's just "more".
Nutrition programs, fine. You can quantify how much people need to eat. Housing? I hate section 8 with a passion but fine. At least you can quantify it.
If this "people need a dignified life" bullshite becomes the standard then it's game over. There is no limit to how much it will take to make people feel "dignified".

No that's not what I meant. I don't think it's at all hard to live quite comfortably for a dual income household on $55K.
