I’m looking at the new Mercedes GLE 350 and the package I want only runs me 63k.

Are these 80k trucks usually being used for heavy duty stuff? Or are people just buying it as a status symbol? Like a Range Rover.

trucks are a lot nicer vehicle now than 20 years ago.not saying they should be 80k, but they are a lot nicer.

also, the idea of "luxury" brands isn't really the same. my ram limited is as nice as just about anything else i've gotten into recently. the interior is awesome.

we grew up with mercedes, and bmw, and lexus being "luxury" vehicles. when in reality the multple beemers and mercedes my grandparents had were pieces of shite. i love a good beemer now, but in the past they were a luxury because they were expensive to import. and US branded vehicles were made cheaply.
US vehicles have improved dramatically, plus all the asian brands, so the difference between all these different brands isn't that great anymore.

the only exception i can see is to tow a large boat.

if im working construction or hauling stuff where its going to get beat up, im getting a nice truck but not an 80 grand truck.

Yea, I can imagine using it to tow a 40 foot off shore boat, but not much else.

If you actually get a 2022 Denali 2500 for 80k it’s actually not bad in today’s market

Dealership is probably selling it 5-10k above that sticker price

This is why I have owned my last new 4x4. I had an 80 Series land Cruiser for the last 7 years. Sold it for a profit. Currently have a 91 Jeep Wrangler YJ. It is no luxury ride, but I paid cash for it and had plenty of money from the sale of my Land Cruiser to fix/upgrade what was needed.

a grand a month for 60 months on a rapidly depreciating asset. good stuff

That’s only $60,000. What about taxes and interest? How much you putting down to get your payments that low?

You can’t lease one that cheap!

Yeah I wanted just a F150 XLT 4x4 recently. Due to low inventory all they had was Lariats
If Ford ever gets the chip situation sorted out F150s are going to be cheap as frick as they try to keep their #1 selling truck tag. Lariats are sitting at dealerships, so once things are really back up I'm expecting 12k off.

Seems like a company could make a killing by putting out a 90s style Nissan truck. Nothing fancy. Although safety and emissions requirements may make that impossible

I still ride around on weekends in my 98 Frontier 4 banger, has over 300k and no signs of stopping

Have a 2004 F150 in great shape for pulling the heavier stuff around. Frick that noise regarding $80k pickups.

They are tools people. You don't take a hammer to a beauty show and you don't pull a boat with a Cadillac. Two beater trucks that are worth $10k altogether has more value than one $80K when it comes to needing to use both at the same time...say a hurricane pops up and you and the wife want to haul shite out

I think alot of it is a status symbol. For instance, wanna be neighbor of mine had a perfect 2001 7.3L diesel F-250, it had some of the mods done to make it more reliable and had only 149,000 miles on it. Truck sits in the driveway and maybe gets 10 miles a week on it. He doesn't have anything super heavy to pull, can get away with owning an F-150. The dumbass sold the old reliable 7.3L and now has a note on a 2019 F250 diesel he didn't need and will never use as it was intended but hey, he looks like he has money driving around that "new" truck

80k trucks is fukin stupid these days

How another man spends his money is none of my concern. 80K for a truck is not possible for lots of folks. To others it’s just a truck they use to haul trash to the dumpster.

Sfp,

Trucks have become status symbols in the south.

I would love to see Kia or Hyundai to get in on this market & see what happens.
