It is physically impossible for all automobiles to be powered by lithium ion batteries

It has been known since at least the early 1990s that there are not sufficient proven lithium reserves on THE GLOBE to satisfy global demand for automobiles (not even mentioning other forms of fossil fuel transportation) ONE TIME (i.e. you couldn’t even give every person who needs a car an electric car powered by lithium ion battery ONCE before there simply is no more lithium left ON EARTH - but of course most people need multiple cars over the course of a lifetime of driving).
It is simply physically IMPOSSIBLE, without an entirely new form of battery technology which doesn't currently exist, to make the global fleet of automobiles electric. The forces advocating for electric vehicles/against gas powered vehicles fall into two camps - 1. Too stupid to know this FACT, or 2. People who know that it is impossible but who expect all but the most wealthy people on earth to accept a massive, unprecedented decline in their standard of living to reduce global CO2 emissions.

The joke will be on us.
They are not planning on everyone owning a car.
You’ll own nothing and be happy.

don't bring logic or facts into a conversations with Dems/Libs. The best decisions are all made with feelings

Yup, impossible to innovate something new

You’re assuming they plan to have current levels of people and cars on the planet.

Almost as if there should be billions of dollars in research going into this industry....

Of course it is POSSIBLE that there will be an amazing breakthrough in battery technology. We better just hope that there will be because it sounds like you would agree that there hasn’t been one yet. And as I understand it (please correct me if I am wrong) there is no real viable alternative to lithium ion on the horizon at the moment. Yet the whole world is supposed to get to work using lithium ion-powered cars in the near future??? Now THAT is IMPOSSIBLE.

Commercially viable ithium ion technology is barely 30 years old.
Calm down with your 'nothing will be developed' hysteria.

There’s lithium in lunar regolith:

There is lithium being mined in water these days. The OP qualifies 'proven reserves' in his hysteria.

That’s good. I was worried if lunar mining ever became a thing, we would have to quell a workers’ rebellion at some point. That 1/6 gravity starts making the proletariat a little uppity.

Doesn't mean what you think it does.

We definitely want to start fricking with something that helps regulate our ocean tides. Nothing bad would come of that.

What is the current output and energy costs associated with it? Also, what is the estimated amount of lithium in water around the world?
