quote:It's my respect to give. Same for you and everyone else.
Is it divine or self-annointing that makes you the arbiter of who deserves respect?
If you say something stupid, and then say it again after it's pointed out that it's stupid, you don't get mine.
Imagine if we have been getting most of our energy from burning wood, and the president vows to end the bio-fuels industry. Then some genius chimes in with "we can't stop burning wood because we need wood to build houses and shite".
Sounds pretty stupid, right? But you bite your tongue and calmly explain that yes, we are aware that we build lots of things out of wood, and that this is one of the reasons we should probably stop burning so much of it. Then, instead of recognizing that there is no way to logically continue this line of reasoning, they double down on the idea that you have to keep burning something in order to have some of it around. "Where are you going to get your wood from if I can't burn it anymore?"
Like, even a mentally disabled person can understand that when you burn something it's gone forever, and that if you don't burn it then you can use it for something else. So why do so many people have trouble with this concept?
