Actually, this may be correct. I read an article in a journal the other day that said they anticipate the sun is going to a maximal phase.

quote:

Over the course of a solar cycle, the sun will transition from a calm to an intense and active period. During the peak of activity, called solar maximum, the sun’s magnetic poles flip. Then, the sun will grow quiet again during a solar minimum.

Initially, peak activity was forecast to begin in July 2025. Now, experts believe the cyclical peak is more likely to take place in mid- to late 2024.

I attended my grandfathers funeral two years ago to the day yesterday and I can promise you it was every bit as hot then than it was this week. Multiple old people almost fainted and there wasn’t a person there that wasn’t soaked through from being in the sun for 45 minutes.

Wtf school did you go to?

I'll just say you're full of shite before the answer

I remember the middle school in my town not having air conditioning and I am 38. The first two years my sister (40) (no pics) attended they didn't have it.

And you would be wrong. The heat this year is record breaking true; but the record was set back in 1922 in Louisiana. When I bought my house back in 1999 or so we had a heat wave like this because of an El Nino

There wasn't El Nino in 1999. In fact, 1999 was the start of a triple dip La Nina, similar to what we just came out of. 1998 was a very strong El Nino year. We had a pretty swift transition to La Nina, and by the heart of Summer we were solidly in La Nina.

I don't know the area you were in, so I'm going to work off of the Baton Rouge area

August 13, 2021 the high was 90° and the low was 69° (Noice!).

August 13, 2023 the high was 101° and the low was 81°.

ETA: This uses the BR airport numbers. If you were 14ish miles south you wouldn't have been quite as hot.

It was this hot 10 - 15 years ago or whenever the last El Nino was blowing hell on us.

No it wasn’t. Thus the numerous records being set. It might’ve been this hot a day or two but not anywhere close to this long.

It feels different because the humidity is low compared to what it normally is.

It wasn't. At least not in southern LA. That Summer, again going with the BR numbers, saw no triple digit days.

I went to Kiroli and they were installing air conditioning mid 70s. That same time they had a fire sent us to Riser.

They NEVER should’ve installed a/c.

It's regional. Half the country is below average this summer, and even some of the south.

We just aren't getting any rain, so our area is acting like the desert that is immediately to our west.

This is what happens when it's just too dry.

Yes, this is different for our area, but it's all about the lack of consistent rainfall.

Well, put your Hand over concrete or over a blacktop road. Now think of how much more of that has been laid down the last 30 years. Sooner or later replacing grass with reflective concrete has got to have an effect

That's because it wasn't. 15 consecutive days of 100+ degrees where I'm at. That has never happened before. Gotta go back 60+ years for anything close to that. Anybody in the deep south that says "it's like this every summer" is full of shite. We're averaging almost 10 degrees hotter than normal.

There was an underwater volcano that erupted last year and is basically the reason for the heat wave as it put trillions of gallons of water vapor into the atmosphere, which is a greenhouse gas. That and also it’s just fricking hot down here anyway. So there you go.

My first car, 1981 f150 single cab w black vinyl seats and no A/C. That sucker was HOT in the summer. Windows stayed down, even during the rain!

I honestly don't know how people lived in the South back in the days of no A/C.

Just sticky hot all the time and you're just nasty sweaty 24/7. frick that.
