re: It bothers me seeing states like Georgia, Texas, and NC just leaving Louisiana in the dust

Culture matters. I’ve lived in two of the three states listed as well as Louisiana and the level of apathy in Louisiana trounces those.
It’s my unsubstantiated opinion that New Orleans and it’s immediate suburbs have a true relaxed/slow demeanor about everything, including emergencies

Louisiana sucks balls but I’m glad it isn’t flooded with foreigners and especially, Californians

Yep. An Iowa congressman came under fire for saying something like this a while back
quote:
"Here's what FEMA tells me: We go to a place like New Orleans and everybody's looking around saying, 'Who's gonna help me, who's gonna help me?' When FEMA responds to problems in Iowa, they're just always gratified when they come and see how Iowans take care of each other," the Iowa lawmaker told a town hall meeting in Charter Oak, Iowa, on Thursday.

Huntsville is a Welfare City subsidized by the Federal Government. Georgia Texas and NC have private industry and jobs propping them up not the Government. Huge difference there.
Have a downvote, the government investing in defense and applied science is hardly something to thumb your nose at as “welfare”
Furthermore Huntsville has Intergraph and AdTran among other companies doing great work in the private sector.
But please continue with your “all government is bad” schtick as if Redstone and NASA are the problem with this country

Louisiana's abject shittiness is like a protective shield that keeps out the yankees and try hards.

It’s welfare. Let’s end this discussion. How many Fortune 100 or 500 companies are HEADQUARTERED in Huntsville?
Huntsville is a product of out of control Government spending propping an area up ie Welfare. You can deny it all you want but it won’t change the truth.

Many in Louisiana truly do not value education.

From my experience being a person from New Orleans that now lives in Houston is that the people in Texas generally have a can-do attitude. They think bigger and wanna get shite done. The people in Louisiana generally have a more negative “whatever” attitude. It’s apathy, really.
And many of the go-getters that Louisiana does produce end up heading for Texas or somewhere else.

That is a canary in the coal mine. What is wrong with you guys in La?

You’re really asking this question?
I’m born and bred Louisiana.
Nola is older than almost every fricking city in America. It’s pathetic how much it hasn’t turned Louisiana into an economic powerhouse.
Seriously pathetic and frustrating. Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte - Nola has 150 yrs on them and still can’t deliver. It’s not a city problem it’s a people problem.

You know just continuing to call it welfare (pejoratively) doesn’t make it so, right?
Huntsville not having Fortune 100/500 companies headquartered there is a weird measure of success/failure for a city of 200k. Huntsville does have some large private companies though, so it’s really an empty criticism

Smart companies don’t want to be around Louisiana corruption and ill trained workforce. Louisiana has a very bad reputation that is well deserved.

This is the main problem IMO. More than infrastructure and politics. Poorly educated workforce.

THIS IS WHERE HUEY frickED LOUISIANA:
Huey Long, the famous Louisiana populist, launched his political career by waging war on the big oil companies, especially what he called Standard Oil's "invisible empire."
"I would rather go down to a thousand impeachments than to admit that I am the governor of the state that does not dare to call the Standard Oil Company to account,"

New Orleans' heyday was like 1785.
And briefly in 2009 and early 2010.

Take the Federal Government jobs out of Huntsville and what are you left with? Not much. Huntsville is a city propped up and subsidized by the Federal Government so you can’t compare the success there to other cities with private industry. It’s manipulated and dependent on the government.

Honestly, enjoy it. Charleston has become unlivable 9 months out of 12. Greenville has no soul and is eating what is left of nature like kudzu. Columbia is captive to the worst kind of corruption. Our elected and appointed officials from 1900 to 1995ish were not prone to abject total corruption. Louisiana had generational, institutional corruption in place. Knowing how to steal and still keep things moving is a lost art. This new crowd only know how to steal.
The nicest part of SC is the Charlotte suburbs.

Huntsville, AL is the Silicon Valley of the South.
