You have raised some exceptional points. We have enough agencies. How is it that not one could have begun stockpiling freaking masks of all things. Seems to be a pretty obvious preparation for such an inevitable pandemic that would hit us one day, and yet when one day comes, we aren’t ready with the bare necessities like masks.

AND people want to put their trust in governments to take care of them. Well, here’s a prime example of government looking after your basic needs for you to chew on.

Could a very busy hospital in NY state have different circumstances than your hospital?

Absolutely

I wasn’t saying otherwise, just reporting what’s going on where I work.

Again...AZ hasn’t gotten hit hard.....yet. I think we’ve only had 2 people die so far and less than 200 confined cases so far. (At least last time I checked).

I like reading what other hospitals are doing (to conserve PPE)that are hit hard so I can take some of these great and resourceful ideas to my senior leadership. Because it’s not a matter of if AZ will get hit hard....it’s when.

Why didn’t the dept of HHH or CDC or NIH build a warehouse and stock it full of this stuff for a pandemic.

Why didn't you stockpile enough to get you through a pandemic? Why does Big Daddy Federal Government have to do it? Why don't individuals take responsibility for their own health and safety?

You cite the "$116,000 toilet". You want $28/per N95 masks? Put the Feds in charge.

This "the government has to do something!" mentality has got to stop.

We have poor leadership that only cares about getting reelected and lining the pockets of their buddies.

Government doing something?
The Banks, Wall Street and Corporate have been nothing short of Welfare recipients for over a full decade.

I just got an email from a vendor asking if my clients needed masks. Pricing up to 100,000. Now this vendor is in China, so...

Maybe because we expect the government to support us in a war or natural catastrophe.

War, yes. Stockpiling of OTC supplies that you can buy more cheaply and efficiently? No.

ETA: Since y'all brought it up, let's say the Feds do have stockpiles of "pandemic supplies". How is the US Dept of Babysitting going to distribute these supplies? Isn't having people come en masse to some central collection/distribution point pretty much negating the point of social distancing/quarantine? Or is the DoB going to go door-to-door and hand them out? To a country of 300+ million in time with a fast-spreading contagion. And you better hope these DoB distributors aren't vectors themselves and become latter day Typhoid Marys.

Do you see how stupid your notion is? Take responsibility for your own safety. Quit relying on Daddy Government.

If only there was some sort of high level committee dedicated to preparing for pandemics, hmmm maybe something on the National Security Counsel...

OTC supplies. I’m not talking about toilet paper. I’m talking about masks, gloves, suits that our doctors and emergency workers need for this pandemic.

You can purchase all of those yourself. Private hospitals and medical centers can, also. All without the federal government getting involved. Imagine that...

That’s right. In a national health crisis thats what we tell hospitals. You should have bought it yourself. We should have just had one press conference and the president should have said “you’re on your own”.

Glad we agree.

Why am I expected to subsidize these massive corporations' bottom line?

You still have not addressed how the Dept of Babysitting is going to distribute these mountains of supplies without distributing the very contagion they are supposed to be combatting.
