Why am I going around telling random people now that this Saturday is "Front Day"?

Same here

I’m curious as to why tomorrow is not Front Day because it meets the criteria being the first Saturday with a high in the 70s.

Tomorrow it’s supposed to be s high of 78 and a low of 65 in NO.

TL, I think a low of 58, which is not been something seen in 8 months, is a cool front.

Now tomorrow's high for New Orleans is 78. What happens if you miss Front Day?

Friend,

Mother gave us the update yesterday morning. She predicted mostly cloudy skies, a high of 79, and a low of 66. Thus only two of the four criteria were met: Saturday and highs below 80. To be Front Day, we also need the other two criteria: a bright and sunny day, as well as lows below 60. I tried to soften Mother’s stance since we had such a brutal summer, but she would not budge. “Never forget 1985. Front Day closes hurricane season. We nearly had Front Day in the middle of October that year. But no day met all criteria. A false Front Day would have given false security about the end of our tropical weather, for Juan ravaged our coast the last week in October. Front Day appropriately came the next week.”

Now I did not correct Mother on this, as she has only celebrated Front Day since 1998. But she had a point. There are some things for which waiting are worth it. Front Day is one of them.

Again, she seems confident despite current predictions that next Saturday is the day.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. Mother has never missed Front Day. She did incorrectly and prematurely predict one Front Day in 2003. I do not know what we would do if we missed one. It would be a tragedy.

She wouldn't happened to have written down all the front days since 1998 somewhere ? That would be interesting to see if she did.

Friend,

1998: October 10 (75/56)
1999: October 23 (72/57)
2000: October 7 (71/56)
2001: October 20 (79/56)
2002: November 2 (66/53)
2003: November 15 (80/50)
Mother projected a high of 78 this day, but the mercury rose to 80. It was the only time in 25 years she has failed accurately to predict Front Day. We still had a brilliant Front Day, even with the warmer than normal temperature. It was a very good thing we celebrated on this day because the next day that met Front Day parameters was December 27.
2004: November 6 (71/47)
2005: October 29 (71/49)
2006: October 28 (69/54)
2007: October 27 (70/55)
2008: October 25 (77/52)
2009: October 17 (67/54)
2010: October 30 (76/50)
2011: October 22 (75/53)
2012: October 27 (64/53)
2013: October 26 (74/51) The week before met the temperature definitions, but it also was a rainy day.
2014: October 4 (73/57)
2015: November 14 (67/57)
2016: October 22 (75/57)
2017: November 11 (72/54)
2018: October 27 (75/55)
2019: October 26 (79/57)
2020: October 31 (70/52)
2021: October 30 (68/53)
2022: October 22 (79/56)
2023: TBD

Are you using the temperature from Lakefront or Moisant when taking these temperatures into consideration?

Well on the bright side I get a special dessert for “not Front Day” and again next week for Front Day.

We got down to 46° this morning. Today's high was 68°, and the forecast low for tonight is now 40°. We'll have a chance to dip into the 30s.

Good times!

Today isn’t Front Day because it didn’t get below 60 any time from 12 am - 11:59 pm on Saturday.

Basically the low has to be in the 50s on Friday night (Saturday morning).

Also the high was 80 at Lakefront Airport.
