I doubt any operations will be successful due to the geography of Gaza (a big arse city with people living on top of each other). Hope I am wrong and I hope all Delta/SEAL operators return home safe.

Lots of tunnels too unfortunately. Some of the tunnels are more elaborate and sophisticated than others but there's apparently a lot of them.

I'm doubtful there'll be a US raid at least in the near term because that would mean we had intel as to where the hostages were. Considering Israeli (and I guess US too) intel didn't even know the initial attacks were coming I doubt they have the ability right now to figure out where the captives have been taken.

It's not quite that extreme and risk-averse. From a political perspective, more so; the tactical decision makers, not quite that bad, but it's definitely a cold hard decision. From the bystanders' perspective, it's "well, why don't we just send in 'special forces' to rescue them." <---- That's not actually an overestimation of capability. That's an overestimation of the probability of success. The capability (and things that are almost certainly happening right now) is way beyond what most people realize...and yet, rescue/recovery is unlikely. THAT's how tough it is to pull it off.

It would definitely be a political decision because the of what our adversaries would do with captured operators or pictures of dead ones.

In regards to doing a kinetic strike in Gaza….it would make Mogadishu look like a walk in the park. Understand Hamas isn’t Hezbollah but they have been hardening Gaza for +20 years and likely have tons of RPGs and some Manpads. You ould have to have tons of assets to include the 160th for transport, several companies of Rangers and move the CAG within range to even contemplate it.

The majority of US intel collection in Israel is more than likely a CIA dude calling his Mossad buddy and asking what he knows.

If they're both a fiancé, then they'll probably want to stay out of the Middle East.

Nah. The only way to do it would to have highly accurate human intel and go in incognito and hope you can pick the hostages up and get out without someone figuring you out.

Hostages aside…
It is only 142 square miles…..
Carpet bomb the top… keep food and water cut off and wait for the rats and roaches to pop their heads out.. pee pew….

And a week ago I was pro make Gaza habitable.. let citizens leave and give them all of the West Bank…

They’re going to invade Gaza for revenge. It’s not anymore complicated than that.

Oh I agree with that. You cross the green line and kill Israelis for sport, revenge is coming. This response is not complicated to understand.

But destroying Hamas means breaking and occupying Gaza. Does Israel really want to get back into the controlling Gaza business right now?

Fun fact though: gdp growth in gaza under Israeli occupation - not too shabby.

Only way that works is if we had a humit network in Gaza which is beyond unlikely the CIA has. Mossad May have one and they aren’t going to waste it on us.

Mossad and Shin Bet will take a page out of the Russians book from the 2nd Chechen war (and improve on it) and use infiltrated operators to drop target designators in the form of candy wrappers, pieces of wood, etc.

There will be a bounty and they will be actively hunting IDF special ops using IR and laser designators. Not that they will get many of them, but those are high value targets for Hamas and because they are actively hunting/baiting them they will, at a minimum, frustrate their efforts.

One thing about the Israelis... they have never been shy and quite efficient of adopting others tactics including (and especially) their enemies.

It helps that they have an ample supply of personnel who can easily pass as Palis.

And pay attention to those defending the actions of Hamas. Pay attention to those calling for “Peace.” Rest assured these people don’t want peace.

Someone said it best the other day. Peace to Hamas and other terrorist groups means “stop kicking our arse for a while so we can reload and attack you again.”

NYU law's SBA president just put out an insane statement praising the Hamas attacks and saying Israel is to blame for their own deaths: Twitter LINK

That's not anywhere near feasible in Gaza City or the Strip in general.

A rescue is unlikely to happen, but if it does, it will not be surgical. It will be big enough that it won't even look like an HR.

We have become entirely too tolerant in this country.

People like this should not exist.

A number of universities have heavily entrenched anti-Israeli communities who will shut down any discussion that doesn’t go towards either boycotts or outright destruction of the country.

These tend to be in the northeast and in California.

Without going into detail, let's just say Mossad isn't the primary entity for that.

All of that exists (Hamas knows it, so this isn't revealing anything) and everyone likely has the most of the info they need outside of specific operational/tactical details. That stuff takes some time and can't be half-assed. Any delay isn't due to "can't", but rather "we are, it just takes time."

The issue is the mechanics of the execution. It's extremely low probability for lots of reasons and about as high risk as it gets.

If it does happen, it will look like something different than what it actually is. The HR, if they disclose it, will look like a sideshow.

tOffical prog position will always be to support the Palestinians, regardless of viability or morality.

They melted down more about a guy with horns on his head holding a podium in the WH than they have about Hamas.
