Somewhat related - I had a shitastic day not too long ago. When I got home I reflected on the shittiness and actually felt even worse when I remembered that I'll never get those hours back. They're gone and there will be more days like them that will eat away at whatever time I've got left. It sucks, but it helps remind me to fill the day with as many good memories and experiences as possible. That particular day I ended up spending more time with my kids than I had in a week or two and enjoyed the hell out of it.

When I am 90 I will hopefully be thinking I spent the proper amount of quality time with my family and friends.

I think the only thing we take with us beyond this life is relationships. The only thing truly immortal.

Didn't say it was suicide. I said it was a slow suicide.

Where is the intent to kill oneself, even if done over a long period of time? If you gradually poisoned yourself with arsenic, I can see your point.

A slow suicide is slowly throwing your life away over time. Hence, killing time.

It's idleness and using suicide as part of the description makes no sense to me.

What is killing time? Are hobbies or watching movies considering killing time? Because if they are, I enjoy killing myself.

3000 posts a year? Nah. Considering message boards like this are how many relate to others these days. See my previous post.

we only have on average a little over 3 billion heartbeats in our lives. If one is intent on throwing those away I would call that intent to slowly kill oneself.

That's kinda the heart of the question isn't it? Time spent on oneself for selfish enjoyment...how much is it really worth?

Nothing wrong with idleness. Enjoy it. The real problem is chasing the carrot in front of your face until you realize it's futile.

You're slowly 'killing yourself' even if you're not throwing it away. The end result is the same.

For yourself maybe, but not for others in your life. The older I get the more I realize being selfish is pointless on this earth.

What are the alternatives? I kind of like enjoyment.

I'm not saying we can't enjoy times by ourselves. We obviously can. I am asking about that next level of idleness where we find ourselves bored and just looking for something to do to "kill time".

The alternatives to that, imo, are trying to better oneself for the good of others or reaching out and developing/nurturing relationships.

So you're saying that starting a thread is a deliberate attempt to slowly kill others?
