re: Isn't wanting "to kill time" nothing more than a slow suicide?

This killing time is killing me
Drinking myself blind
Thinking I won't see
That this killing time
Is killing me

He did come to his senses and realize that there really is no time to kill just 4 years later.

That's kinda the heart of the question isn't it? Time spent on oneself for selfish enjoyment...how much is it really worth?
It depends. If "wasting" time on yourself keeps your spirits up and keeps you motivated to maximize your other hours, it's worth it.

. I am asking about that next level of idleness where we find ourselves bored and just looking for something to do to "kill time".
People do what they want to do. You've got 80 years max to experience life, whatever you value is what you'll do.
If you're not motivated to do more, you're still making a choice. The guy who spends a Thoreau like experience on a pond probably gets more value from that as the guy who is involved in the rat race.
I've never understood the concept of being bored or killing time, outside of doing things you don't value or don't want to do.

Man, this is some deep thinking. How high are you?

Will I wish that I had ridden a bull named Fumanchu instead of replying to this thread? Yes, but a person can only ride that bull a few times without it costing too much or getting hurt.
There are degrees of regret and the more I type this, the more I am regretting not using my idle time doing something meaningful.

Not everyone enjoys the same thing. There are some people who enjoy "relaxing" and just killing time, by not even paying attention to it, they just live in the moment.
You can look at life in a negative way or a positive way, since we only have so long.. why waste time looking at life in a negative perspective?

No, that's using time. Killing time is just finding something to do to get through the next few hours because you are bored.
I'm not doing that.
You might not be bored but you are boring as frick
Lame thread is lame
Enjoying peace and quiet is one of the greatest joys in life, especially on a boat in the spillway

I make up for it by only sleeping 5 hrs a night
You'll actually feel like you die quicker then.
Good REM sleep produces dreams, which are mini-movies we experience that can feel like
you're getting days worth of figuring out consciousness in one night
