I was out of town a month or so ago and my kids and ex came over to get the dog and when they left they didn't lock the front door. When I got home not only was it unlocked somehow it was open, had been for close to 48 hours.

Nothing was missing. My truck was in the driveway (I ubered to the airport) and my neighbor asked me if I was airing something out. When I told him I was not home until then he said next time he will call.

We have 2 doors into our backyard and 1 into our garage, which is open on the backside, and they never get locked. We rarely use the front door and earlier this week I went to go out of it and it was unlocked. It must have been unlocked for at least a week.

I live uptown near the zoo. Sometimes I’ll get drunk and forget to lock the front door or gate leading into the side yard. Home invasions don’t worry me much where I live—haven’t heard of one in years

Didn't you know according to OP NOLA is a third world shite hole where our homes are broken into daily, our cars are constantly stolen, and we are murdered weekly.

I never got that. Why is it so hard to lock doors. Every damn unsolved mysteries I see starts with, "this town is so safe that no one locks the doors....we never thought this could happen here." Just lock the fricking door

Couldn’t do this in a place like New Orleans for example. Would be robbed blind and possibly killed

While living in New Orleans I drunkenly left my keys in the door after unlocking it on two separate occasions, and I'm still here to tell you about it.

In my current neighborhood, we forget to lock the doors on occasion and we're still alive.

I could fall asleep with my porch light on and front door wide open, knowing nothing would happen.

The only fear is that I'm the first house you'd see if you walked up my road from the Hwy.

Locking doors is like wearing a seatbelt. You won't need it 1,000 days in a row, but on that 1,001 day you will wish you did.

It's better to have the doors locked (deterrent) than have home invasion death numbers go up

I do every night. My wife rarely locks the door during the day.

My parents have never used a key for their house in 60 years. the only thing that is "locked" is the the garage, which you need a code to open from the front but can walk right in the back door

Well, most of NOLA is like that. Not where you live or I live though. Still probably not the best policy to leave unlocked but when I have accidentally done it, it has never freaked me out. Everything has been there. My neighbors all look out for each other. Lot of stay at home moms. People know when anyone is in the neighborhood who doesn't live there.

A lot of thieves will be monitoring this thread and making note of all the users who customarily leave their doors unlocked. It's not that hard to track down your ip addresses either to find out where you live
