This is why they never caught up. Irony is that it was democrat policies that destroyed the black community.

Yeah, I apologize for stooping to the level of calling you names and cussing. I think it's difficult to keep a cool head and be diplomatic when lately it seems like all I see is a barrage of headlines about blacks being mistreated. If I offended any of you I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me.

This nation wasn't built in 60 years, so what makes you think a group of people oppressed for several centuries that just got acknowledged as having the same rights as whites less than 60 years ago is going to miraculously progress to being on the same level economically as whites?

You know the Equal Rights Amendment was never ratified for women (white or black) in the U.S. yet you obviously expect white women to achieve equal status as white men without any kind of assistance and are now asking that they as "whites" share in paying you back for atrocities committed by their male ancestors when they also did not receive equal rights until long after this country was formed.

Doesn't that make you a massive hypocrite?

wouldn't either, because overall, being a white male is your best bet in total, right?

Best bet would be passing for white.

Then you can just let people assume. And if you want to take advantage of diversity opportunities, then you show the people in charge a picture of your black ancestor.

I don't think discussions are what's needed. That word is useless and just thrown around as its own talking point. It is definitely pointless when the "offended" sit there and talk to other "offended" about what to do. Talk is cheap

Leadership is what solves problems. Need someone to say, "This is what we're doing, now shut the frick up"

Nobody is crying. I'm stating facts. I went to college, and I have a good job. I don't want/need a hand out, I am merely making the point that there is an outstanding debt to blacks that never got paid off, and it should get paid off.

Well, you're saying you don't want a hand out but you're blatantly asking for it.

Look, I largely agree that blacks are playing behind a stacked deck. I have no idea what it would be like to grow up with the stigmas associated with being young and black. I know I want peace and to embrace our melting pot of a country. I also know that no one on this board participated in the horrible atrocities committed on your ancestor's and until we make the past, the past, we will always just be spinning our wheels. I can't even fathom the kind of mindset it would take to think a person could own a person and I flat out detest the very notion of it.

That said, if fair is fair, I have to ask, what would it take to make things even in your mind? Would every black person agree? When would it end?

We are all guilty of this at some point, it's cool man... I was genuinely interested in your response to what I asked you though

Ok let's agree to disagree No more name calling, I apologize for that.. You keep speaking about reparations, and at first I was just fricking with you, but now I'm serious... What would you consider to be a fair payback? A certain dollar amount? Does it go to ALL African Americans? I'm interested in seeing your plan of action if that were to come to fruition

To be honest, Ive thought about that question for awhile, and what I've realized is that money won't heal old wounds, but understanding and camaraderie might.

I have a white friend on Facebook who always try to shame white people. She says that all white people have white privilege. She also says that it doesn't even matter how much you struggle in life.
Is white privilege a real thing and how do you overcome it? Is it something people say to shame people?

"White privilege" exists so that POC can have a reason to blame all of their failing on. When 100 people apply for one job and 50 are black and 50 are white but only one can be hired.

If the white mans gets the job ( because he is more qualified) then the 50 unhired blacks claim that they were discriminated because they are black.

Meanwhile the 49 unhired white people chalk it up to luck and try harder next time. No privilege there.

"White privilege" is simply a BS term that lazy azz people came up with to try and excuse why POC are so often such abysmal failures and refuse to take responsibility. They must blame their failure and lack of motivation on "white privilege".

So accuse me of having "White Privilege". It just means that I harder working and will do what it take to succeed and won't blame another race for my failure to succeed.

Oh and speaking of white privilege. Here is my cousin who is an accomplished actress, a playwright, a author and who overcame a rough life in inner city New Orleans, poverty, losing her mom to death at an early age. She also went thru a traumatic time at Katrina and lost almost everything.

She was from a broken family, had a father in jail (which she wrote a play about), a mother who had serious health problems, and she was raised by various relatives.

So check out the white privilege on my cousin.

I think my lot in life has more to do with parent priveledge. It's insulting that my parents efforts to maintain a family unit, discipline, teach, work hard, and save are attributed to the color of our skin. That's racist.

My wife is from the Appalachian mountains. I'm not sure of the demographic make up but it's almost all white people. There is poverty there that is just hard to figure out. It's generational and it's easy to see it being propagated to the next generation as the younger generation gets older.

It's never going to change there either. It's not because of opportunity it's because of the people that live there. They have "crab in a bucket" mentality. If someone tries to improve their lot in life they are instantly a pariah among their neighbors. The societal pressure to maintain the status quo does just that.

It'll never change until their beliefs change and they are all white.
