Is Waving Willie still waving on Alvin Dark Avenue

There was an old black man who would stand on a drain every day and dramatically wave at passing vehicles. He was obviously a bit touched. This was back in 2007-2010 when I was at LSU. I was recently talking to a guy who had graduated in 2004 and he was talking about Waving Willie being there then but had a different nickname. Does anybody have any info on this guy?

While we're on the subject of peculiar back dudes, Any seen that super tall back guy that hangs north BR at the beginning of i110? Guys legs are like 70% of his height. Looks like he's on stilts or something.

How did he die? I remember him in the early 2000's while at LSU and he seemed like a nice guy, just a little off

Haven't thought about Alvin Dark in years 
Used to drive that street to brightside everyday when I was in school and that dude would always be waving at me. I thought I was special

Why does every area have one of these characters, but only one.
Here in Walker, we have this black fella that is stick thin and dresses like a superhero. He wears tights and a cape sometimes, sometimes just a Spider-Man suit. He carries a Vietnam era rucksack that looks like it weighs more then him.
In poncatoula, there's the black fella that has a set of bike handle bars on top of a pole. He stands on the side of the street and steers his "bike" and waves at traffic.
College drive has the guy with the signs.
Growing up in New Iberia, we had "street Jesus". Homeless guy with long blond hair. Occasionally he'd ride a bike towing a large cross.

hadn't thought about that guy in forever but yeah i remember him well from the 00's and into the early 2010's
