10% frick you, you were awful
15% sub-par but still mediocre service
20% good service (and 90% of the time I tip this)
25+% ridiculously good service

ETA:
Carryout I tip a couple bucks, delivery 3-4.

Idk, I just do it.

I can't remember a time I haven't tipped anything. I honestly can't remember the last time I had awful service. I'm pretty hard to piss off.

ETA:

I find it more insulting to leave a small tip than no tip

I live in a small town, so I tip $1 at the fast food places. I get my McDonald's breakfast delivered to my table (on the rare instances I eat in).

This is true. My local spots I frequent, I tip extremely well.

And I get extremely great service every time I go to these places because of this (and because I'm just polite).

if you are on vacation or rarely go to a place, what value are you receiving from tipping? You have literally received everything from the server by the time the bill is offered to pay.

I guess empathy. That is how they pay their bills and live. They provided me a service and I am showing I'm grateful. If tipping wasn't expected by servers (like some countries) I wouldn't do it, but these people live off of it.

a person does a great job serving me a $20 entrée. that person gets a whole lot less tip than the person serving me an $80 entrée.

how dumb is that?

Very.

The empathy part of the brain was cut off the collective brain of this place. I mean really tho, what is left?

I don't understand the rationale for tipping for pick up.

$2 is for the people preparing it for me to pick it up, the cook, and for the convenience of walking in and having it ready for me to take to my house.

Isn't much but it is something.

At Arby's and Cane's and BK and McDonald's and Chik-Fil-A you tip 2$ for them having it ready, so you can just take the food and eat it? If not, where do you draw the line between tipping at one restaurant v. the others for carry out?

I find the auto % calculation at the bottom annoying and offensive.

for the record, you were being paid minimum wage as well (if not for the generous nature of your dining guests

For the record, I was paid around $2.13/hr before tipping which usually showed up as $0.00 on my paycheck since it was all taxed.

The hostess is getting paid regardless if she's being tipped or not, which was my original point.

I've no tipped only twice and my fricking god the service was so fricking bad.

That charcoal place on magazine and Jackson. Might have been the worst service I've ever experienced. Place was not crowded at all and there were ample wait staff. What should have been a 30-45 minute experience turned into almost two fricking hours.

I get a notification on my phone whenever my card is swiped. 23 fricking minutes from the notification appearing and when he made it back to our table. And then he gave me someone else's check....Had to run in after him because I knew if I didn't he wouldn't be back around for at least 15-20 minutes.

is this person serious?

do you really not know how it works?

the restaurant is federally mandated to make sure that you are paid at least minimum wage. that is why it is called minimum wage. if you do not get enough in tips for you to have made minimum wage over your shift, then that money has to come from the restaurant.

as such, the servers are also getting paid....regardless

You tip 20% for carry out, Big O? Wow, they literally hand me a bag through a window or at the front door. I am not getting refills or condiments or anything else. Just food. Do you tip 20% at McDonalds and Burger King and Chik-Fil-A? That thought has never crossed my mind.

Of course not. That why I said "go out to eat" meaning dine in.

If its carry out, then I'll usually toss them a buck. If it's a big order with lots of extras then $2 or $3

What bugs me are tip jars at counter service places. Why should I tip you just for taking my order? I'll leave a few bucks for the person who brought my food to the table or who has to clean the table afterwards.
