Ain't they the same thing?
Not really. Kendrick Lamar can be considered either, he is kind of transitional.
Basic rule of thumb is that if ice, bling, car references, etc are mentioned, its most likely rap. Hip hop tends to have deeper vocabulary and more intellectual subject matter

This just sounds like the type of music that sounds horrible live.
Nah mane. A lot of the hip hop and rap acts I've seen live, like Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Lupe Fiasco, had their own live bands complete with drummer, bass player, and guitars. Just like a rock band but with a rapper instead of a singer.

I like hip hop and there are some hip hop performers that have good shows, but then there are a lot who have shitty shows. Its as if there is no in between. Eminem, Jay Z, Outcast all put on good shows. It might have been because of the building it was in, but Juvenile sounded like the cars that put the highs in the back window and loses up shite in the in the trunk so the bass can make it rattle.

So are country concerts
Only concerts worth going to are rock bands
Nope. You need to expand your horizons. There's a lot of great music all over the world. If rather see blues, jazz, funk, Cajun, and several others over most Rock bands, especially modern rock.
Hell, there's nothing like a second line on a Sunday.

It is Hit and miss. Problem is most of your better lyricists are underground artist who just don't have the cash to produce good sound for a live show. Talib Kwali is one of my favorite artists but bombed a couple years ago at hangout. Outkast killed it there. Up in smoke tour (Dr Dre, Snoop, Eminem) was very well done. Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino put on a good show also.
