re: Is there anything that can be done to fix the crime issue in New Orleans?

Could be time for a rebranding. Maybe a marketing campaign or even a name change to the city. Another idea is to triple the amount of fentanyl in all drugs. Will clean up things in no time.

Correct. It will never happen of course, but no one should say nothing can be done. A real effort at robust, broken windows type law enforcement would put a big dent in NO crime.

Absolutely not true....
Graph covers through 2016. Since then, crime has generally been down ("In 2018, New Orleans had 143 murders, the lowest annual murder rate since 1971. Other violent crimes in 2018 also experienced a drop from previous years"), though murders are up this year.
Among the ten largest cities in Louisiana, the town of Alexandria had the highest crime rate at 9,174.6 crimes per 100,000 people. Why aren't we crying for Alexandria?

Alexandria isn't the tourist hub for our state. New Orleans, like it or not, is what put Louisiana on the map.

Is this the thread where the people who aren't from New Orleans, or who left New Orleans, and who generally profess not to give a shite about New Orleans, complain about it and pretend to know what they are talking about?

You nailed it.

As long as it's the same thread where some NOLA residents stick their head in the sand about current trends in the city and the path it's going down, sure.
I'm not apologizing for choosing to keep my tax money out of the city as much as possible by living elsewhere while I work downtown. I'm not a huge fan of throwing money away though.

Ok, then it's the Hard Rocks developers fault that there was a shootout on Canal at 3 in the afternoon this week.
My bad, NOLA is fine and the demographic makeup is ripe for growth and development. Isn't SpaceEx considering Central CIty for it's engineering hub?

Absolutely...
-More grocery stores selling fruit and veggies
-Less people put in jail for ‘victimless crime’ such as drugs and robberies
-Free rent
-Higher taxes on the rich and employers
-Free cell phones
-More rent free housing integration into ‘gated’ districts
-$15 or more per hour minimum wage
-Less Police & More Social Workers
-Fewer school options
-More Bicycle Lanes
-Free WiFi for everyone
-More Licensing fees and less inspectors
-Tolls on people working in the city but living outside
-Stop judging the leaders on infrastructure failures
-Keep those pesky restaurant and bar owners from opening up and employing people until after November
Do all that and crime goes away. Haven’t you been listening?

Yes. Here would be my plan:
1 - Huge bond issue to raise capital
2 - Initiate the "road away" program (we pay zero income residents to leave)
3 - Cancel all public benefits for zero income residents
4 - Beautification projects in middle and high income areas
5 - Tax benefits for redevelopment projects
6 - Fix all roads in middle to high income areas
7 - Develop lake and riverfront for tourism

Bring back the nuclear family unit for certain segments of society.

It’s cute that y’all think a new mayor fixes anything. Trump could be mayor of NOLA and there would still be crime.
It’s also cute that so many non-NOLA residents have such insight to the city. Maybe y’all should move here with all of your brilliant ideas and make it better.

So NYC was the same under Guiliani and DeBlasio?

Stop electing judges who keep letting repeat offenders back out on the street with slaps on the wrist so they can go commit more crimes.

If Lincoln has his way, then yes. But now days, no.

I don't know how you fix this but it is the root of most inner city issues.
You'd have to strip welfare benefits in order to disincentivize people from having kids that they can't afford. It will never happen though.
