I think I found the source of your depression

But in all seriousness, you need to reach out to your wife and let her know what’s going on. I’m an ER doc too and I get so busy on my shifts that I don’t even touch my phone. She needs to make time for you to chat at the end of the day at least.

Thank you all so much for contributing

I wish I could muster up enough metacognition to hate it.

Probably not possible at the moment, but have you ever tried meditation?

My wife is different in the sense that she puts everything else off but the patients, she told me before she left for the last shift that she may not be able to contact me, I can't say I wasn't expecting this, but I can say I wasn't prepared for it.

I'm not attacking you personally. I just stated the story seems incredibly far from reality. Its even harder for me to believe that a guy married to a Dr. doesn't know what a PharmD is. If you are serious, call the ER and inquire about her situation. Honestly if you're that worried drive there yourself and figure it out. There is absolutely no way I would go any more than a few hours more than I expected my wife to be off or home before I figured out wtf was happening.

If you're up to it maybe volunteering to assist would help your outlook and give you purpose and a means to grapple with this situation directly. NOLA COVID Volunteer options
Consider it a way to help your wife too . Hang in there for her sake as well. We are all pulling for you.

I suppose you're a better person than I, I assumed a pharmD was a registered pharmacist, you are hurting people by attacking them, it's folks like you that make me feel that there is zero reason to wake up tomorrow, so for my sake I will disregard what you have said to me.

I'm at the point, where I feel consumed by darkness that I hope to volunteer

I try to avoid the news. I've also delved into the internet to talk to people.
r/anxiety's discord for the coronavirus; you can probably always find someone to talk to there
r/anxiety megathread
r/anxiety good new megathread
Little chatbot app/website I saw that might help you; it's light and simple but maybe it'll help.
I hope something helps you. It's not easy to deal with the anxiety, especially when it comes and goes depending on what's happening that day.
Just know that you're not alone with these feelings.

My thoughts go out to you and your wife. I cannot imagine the impact to your emotional health that this situation is having. As many have said, please know that there are good people here who will help with anything you need.
My personal anxiety is coming from not knowing WHEN things may go back to normal (sports on tv, having dinner with friends, being able to travel back to Louisiana to see my parents). Even with a devastating hurricane, we know at some point it moves out and we can say “well, we survived” and start putting things back together. Unfortunately, with this pandemic, we just don’t know when the end of the storm will be yet and that uncertainty is weighing heavy.
And this is a bit embarrassing but I also have a bit of FOMO regarding a bunch of my friends getting to work from home and enjoying some slower times with their family. I got the orders last Friday to furlough/lay-off 95% of my team and I am now working longer hours than ever at a mostly empty office to make up the productivity.
The OT Lounge is a fantastic distraction though - so thank you all.

Hang in there bud. Saying a prayer for you and your bride right now. Not sure why I’m awake but I think it’s for a reason.

Some folks just want to watch the world burn, and I have come to accept that.

I couldn’t sleep at all the past two nights either. I have started two random initiatives each night (besides lurking here) to help distract me - as tv alone isn’t doing the trick.
I found a legal pad and box of envelopes in my closet and started writing a quick few sentence notes to old friends and family (that I haven’t seen in a bit) stating that I was thinking of them and hope the note brightens their day. I mailed 17 of those on the way to work this morning. I also randomly went online and sent a couple of smaller honey baked hams to some older family members that I haven’t seen since Christmas and I know they must be petrified to leave their houses with just a “Happy Easter. Thinking of you and can’t wait to see you soon.” notes. I just wanted to hopefully cheer some other folks up.
Tonight’s project has been just listing random shite on eBay. I don’t need the money. It just has been therapeutic tonight to stack up a bunch of random stuff that I don’t need to have around my place any more and type up some descriptions and set an auction starting at $0.01 and see what it goes for. I haven’t really thought through the boxing and shipping logistics piece of when anything sells though. I guess that will keep me busy next week when those auctions end.
Good luck in finding a few positive things to keep your mind focused too in these late hours.

If he is, what did he gain? What did we lose by replying? It's not like I'm sleeping atm anyway.
But if he is struggling, we could be helping him. Spending a few minutes to copy and paste some links that have helped me is totally worth it to potentially help someone.
