There are certainly a lot worse celebs young girls could idolize and emulate.
As a father of a 12 year old daughter I’ll take Taylor Swift over Cardi B all day

Now, grown adults who are avid fans and talk about her all the time are a little strange, if you ask me...
Keep in mind her first album was nearly 20 years ago, people often continue to love bands as they age. I grew up with the Stone, The Who, Led Zep, AC/DC etc and still love them all today. The soundtrack of one's life has a lot of hold on many people. My parents thought my music was garbage but if album sales, their credibility and staying power are any indication it wasn't that bad.
One thing the OP is missing and even alluded to is the X factor. There are plenty of masterful musicians, singers and songwriters out there that are arguably better than the biggest stars today but will never be more than a spark on YT and the music streaming sites. There is a type of critical mass with all the right elements at just the right time that produces a Taylor. Breaking down artists to all the objectives will never fully explain their popularity or unpopularity just like sports you have your Ryan Leafs and you have your Tom Bradys neither make objective sense.

Not too sure, she isn’t a good role model for young women. She doesn’t live a real life and everything about her life offstage seems fake and cringe.
She’s unmarried and can’t keep a serious relationship. Maybe she has close friends. It’s an unreal model to look up to.
An awesome chick to look up to for young wine is Codie Sanchez, entrepreneur, motivated, and fairly based in her views. She’s married and tries to expand upon that and work life. There are far more impressive role models to have than a pop star.

Same shite, different generation. 60s has the Beatles, 70s had the Stones, 80s had no idea because frick the 80s, 90s had Metallica, and Chili Peppers.
Kinda interesting no one in this thread has drawn by far the closest comparison to the taylor phenomenon

I agree. And the parents who willingly follow this girl. She can't even dance and is a complete nerd. Its pretty comical the following she has considering her lyrics are nothing but "victim" mentality bullshite about all the men who have porked her and then broke up with her.

Stop trying to apply reason, rationality, and logic to pop cultural phenomena.
It was stupid and ridiculous when the Beatles took America by storm in the 60s. Yet, it was a real thing.
It was stupid and ridiculous when Elvis made them swoon in the aisles. Yet, it was a real thing.
Just accept people are going to behave like idiots, following people who are no more qualified to comment on anything than the bum sleeping off a three day bender in the alleyway.
That's just human nature, writ large.

She’s taking the George Lucas Star Wars approach to music. She now has 2 generations of followers. Good for her.

quote:Local media will not stfu about her this week. She's been the entire first segment on WWL all day long.
For a group that collectively "doesn't give a shite about her looks, her views, or her music," this place starts more threads about her than any other topic on a weekly basis.

Bob Dylan did too. Well he said they were wasting their talent on stupid songs. He's an ignorant frick I s'pose.
