I missed all of those details. I thought I read that he gave him an hour and called the cops. What you said is more plausible.
The detail about leaving with a new friend is speculation. I’m just saying, I would go check on my client if they missed the important part of the only reason they flew in, in this case, the site visit at 8am

You think he got trick rolled?
I think it’s one of the possibilities. Again, don’t know, but just hard to imagine he left while his client was finishing out paying his tab, and disappears walking literally 1 block down the street to a Marriott…

Did the city worker answer the phone? Is that how he knew where to bring it?

I don’t remember Happy’s as being particularly hood. Mostly post grad clientele. However, this was over 10 years ago so things could have changed. I’d imagine a Thursday night for Happy’s would be pretty dead as far as business is concerned.

Seems like a lot of details are getting mixed up the last few pages of this thread. I don’t see anything suspicious about “the client” contacting police an hr after he didn’t show for their meeting the next morning.
I imagine he kept tying to contact him with no luck & thought he was either passed out in the hotel or something happened to him.
The WWL link had a good summary.

Nathan Mallard missing in Baton Rouge
He vanished last Wednesday night, Feb. 22, and has been missing several days now: According to his wife Amber, Nathan left out of Atlanta and flew into Baton Rouge Wednesday afternoon.
He was on a business trip: Nathan works for Advanced Construction in Conyers and was visiting Baton Rouge to meet with a client and see a job site.
He and the client went out Wednesday night: Amber said they went to a basketball game (she did not specify the game, though the LSU Tigers had a home game last Wednesday night) and he FaceTimed her from the game briefly to show her his seats. "It was not anything I ever thought would be my last call," she said.
The client last saw him leaving to go back to his hotel: The two were at Happy's Irish Pub on 3rd Street in Downtown Baton Rouge, according to his wife. He had about a block walk back to the hotel, she said. Amber's understanding is the client stayed behind in the pub to close out a tab, and Nathan left on his own. That was the last he was seen by anyone who knows him.
He didn't show up to a meeting with the client the next morning: They were due to meet back on the job site at 8 a.m. The client went to police by 9 a.m. Amber said the client requested a welfare check on Nathan's room when he didn't show for their meeting, and hotel staff reported that it appeared no one had slept there.
Nathan's phone was found a ways from the hotel: Amber said a city worker found it at a work site (it's unclear if it's the same job site Nathan was in town for) at Convention Street and North Seventh Street, about four blocks from his hotel.
His debit card shows activity since the time of his disappearance: Amber said the first transaction was a cash withdrawal and that the card was in use as late as Saturday before she could get it frozen.
There's some surveillance video - with Amber waiting to see more: She said the hotel had video of her husband, which showed that he was wearing a green ball cap, black shirt and blue jeans as described by local police. But she said she hasn't yet gotten any information about the many city or private cameras around Downtown Baton Rouge that could also hold clues.
Description: Millard stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 180 pounds, according to police, and was last wearing a green hat, black shirt and blue jeans.

Are you “The Client”?

Dude was a recovering addict, fell off the wagon. Now he's dead.

That's thanks to our local media screwing up the initial release. Up until yesterday they were reporting the basketball game and his disappearance were on Thursday. It took the station in Georgia reporting the correct timeline before they bothered to change it. It's sad that the only competent journalist in a capitol city is an Independent Reporter. The alphabets and the advocate don't even try anymore.

Does this sound odd to anyone?

I find this odd.
I've been on business trips where someone goes out and gets drunk and doesn't show up the next morning. No one goes doing welfare checks on them. You're an adult, and supposedly a professional. I'm not going to assume you were murdered, or that you died in your sleep. I'd call and find it odd that you haven't responded by say lunch time, but even then, i'd think nothing of it. If i hadn't heard from the guy by the next day, then i'd start questioning what's going on.
I sure as hell wouldn't go do a welfare check on him at 8am after we went out the night before.
I don't understand what would make me believe a welfare check at 8am would be necessary, unless i had a reason to believe something might have happened based on maybe the history of this guy or maybe b/c of somethign he said that night.

it takes like 2 minutes to get your card cancelled, not 2 days.

We are missing alot of details, mostly because of the lack of information from BRPD and the lack of competent journalists in BR. This has led alot of people to fill in the blanks with their own theories and guesses. Based on the little bit of info released by the Georgia station, here's mine.
Guy missing doesn't show up for his meeting at 8 so client starts calling his phone. After an hour of no answer, someone finally picks it up, the city worker who finds it at a different site. Client freaks out and gets city worker to meet him at contractors hotel. Hotel manager is summoned and opens the room, finding that it was untouched from the day before. Client suspects the worst and contacts the police, missing person report is filed.
This could be accurate or not, but is my personal theory for the hours between 8am and when the report was filed. Once again due to general disfunction and incompetence in Baton Rouge we have no idea until someone from the outside takes an interest in this case.

I may be missing some information, but it does seem a bit odd that the client had the welfare check done so quickly. I "think" the facts are that he didn't go to the police until the city worker turned in the phone. I'm assuming the phone would show when the client first started calling the guy that morning.
If they were meeting at 8 and the guy didn't answer, I would probably have just waited a while to give him some time to show up before calling the hotel unless something else was amiss.

Isn't there a police substation right there on 3rd street? next to Jimmy John's across from Boudreaux & Thibodeaux.
Its been years since I've gone out downtown, but I know there 100% was one there a few years back, and a police substation doesn't seem like something that closes. its incredibly odd to me that a guy could disappear a literal stones throw from a police substation. Shouldn't there be some CCTV cameras out front of that police station looking out at the street?

That makes much more sense.
If I was at the bar with a business associate the night before and he doesn't show up to the 8am meeting, I chalk it up to he forgot to set his alarm and he slept in. The last thing I'm doing is calling the police at 9am

You know how many times I call a vendor that stood me up for a meeting?
Perhaps, once. And maybe send a text as well. Unless, I knew something that raised previous suspicion about nefarious things happening.
In 2023, people see missed calls on their cells and don’t repeatedly call, unless, you are an estranged lover.

BR is the perfect place to set up a murder. You know it will get blamed on the dindus and BRPD is inept.

Since last week, Millard says police have been looking at surveillance video and Nathan’s debit card purchases. Millard says Nathan’s card was used twice Thursday morning, 23 February 2023, on Florida Street and at the Greyhound Bus Station.
“My understanding is that they have tried to get camera footage over and over. There is only one that has been returned back to them, and it shows a black male using Nathan’s debit card,” explains Millard.

From the map seen in an earlier post, so far it looks like the perp or perps are on foot or haven’t traveled far if in a car
Chances are he`s been killed and is buried or dumped nearby that area. If he`s not buried the smell might help get the body found.
There`s a lot of homeless criminals, pimps and prostitutes out there that could have done this.
It`s just a shame that hotels, major events, conventions and other meeting are often located nearby or in high crime urban areas.
