The workout plan laid out in that book varies it up decently and doesn't do TOO much repetition to the point of injury. But your right. Basics is absolutely critical. A strong foundation will lead to incredible improvements and gains later on in life after puberty

Overbearing? I fricking hate driving 40 minutes to practice and sitting there for 2 damn hours...spending my weekends on the goddamn sidelines with redneck dumbfricks wanting to fight the ref...I'm sending him with coach this weekend to Daphne...because frick that. I've saved money for his college since before he started school, unlike every their parent I don't want him playing sports in college...if he told me today he wanted to quit I would be happier than a pig in shite.

He wants to get thicker, I just want to sleep in on Saturday or Sunday...lay around with the wife at least one damn morning a week.

Whole milk and whole eggs are your friends here.

At his age I was eating three whole eggs for breakfast. Three for lunch. And drinking a gallon of milk a day. And then whatever lunch and dinner mom cooked. Still couldn't put on weight. I have no idea how my mom kept me fed.

We literally would go through a jar of peanut butter a day.

Unfortunately I carried those habits over to adulthood and am a recovering fatass

I have a feeling this is how my dad felt at times about travel baseball. Started when I was 13.

Unlike the horror stories you see here I loved that shite. I begged him to switch me from rec league in jr high.

I played about 70 games between summer and winter and would have been perfectly satisfied playing 100.

If he loves whatever he's doing then good for him. I was a rambunctious a-hole of a kid.

But holy frick did I love to play baseball.

Between this and inviting prepubescent boys over to climb your living room rock wall, you should be on some sort of watchlist.

Look I don't like to be condescending but you're off base. Sprinting produces hgh in kids. Look it up. Genetics ain't bad either.

I ran track for USAT&F. Hold many state and regional records. Spent first half of my life training. I know all about it. I know that sprinting is shown to increase testosterone and hgh levels, but it also would not even cross my mind for a recommendation for a kid whom is obviously struggling to consume his necessary caloric intake.

K so if you know it why argue it? Most people aren't aware. If he plays a lot of soccer he's basically a marathon runner and how u gonna gain weight doing that?

You can give him protein powder now, nutramint or pedia sure for extra calories

Or make lots of peanut butter sandwiches and eat more meat

bc he is a 10yr old kid who would like to gain weight. My first suggestion would not be to burn calories

funny, bc all my adolescent accolades went out window with that feat. I may be most proud of the barefoot/cig/40oz mile

Add Olive oil to his food and shakes. Protein shakes don't have that many calories. Add in the oil and a banana. You can sub the oil with peanut butter if you wanna go that route.

I wouldn't over do it though. What he is now isn't what he will be. If you enforce eating too much now, he could develop bad habits later.

Can you tell us your real life example of having a kid follow your training plan and gaining weight? Or is this hypothetical?

Well the science is still out on that. In the meantime I'm not gonna let my kid fall behind just cause some clickbait study thinks monster doesn't have enough vitamins.

Maybe it's a ploy from the underachievers to equalize us useful people.

I am that kid. I lived as that kid. I still to this day don't incorporate one stitch of cardio in my workout routine. Its very simple brother. To increase mass much less muscle mass you need to be in a caloric surplus. He is obviously probably currently consuming around his maintenance calories. Following your advice of adding sprints to whatever he is currently doing would technically put him in a caloric deficit or would put him a spot where he now needs to consume 200-500 more calories than he would before he started. If you think the nominal increase in testosterone would be enough to offset the calorie deficit I believe you are off base. If you would like I can link a seminar with Eric Reid and a nutritionist from the saints whom talks about this very thing in adolescent athletes. The answer to his question is EAT, EAT, EAT
