After reading this thread I’m embarrassed for you. Starting a thread as a pathetic attempt at a subtile brag about owning a personal aircraft but forgetting you not long ago posted a thread about not being able to afford a home in Huntsville? Damn. You’ve made a complete arse of yourself.

I'll take the FIL's Citation X and Citation Sovereign over that little tin can.

Where did I say I couldn’t afford a house in Huntsville? There many have been a time where I said I wouldn’t pay that much, but never did I say I couldn’t afford it.

My FIL made his X's tail number his bday and initials. That's subtle enough.

That's good to know.

She's up for a revamp; she hasn't had one since summer. I'll let them know to take the name off and go with the family's crest or something.

Just not for me. I'd fly private and all that but owning my own airplane has just never been a dream of mine.

They all say that, initially. See icon. I think it was Cessna that said not long ago that almost half the cost of their new planes was legal/liability related
very true (starship , eclipse ); I’m keeping my fingers crossed

The problem is it's not THAT convenient, but it is expensive. By the time you drive to the airport, get fuel, preflight, weather checks etc you're already behind a driving trip by a few hours. Do you have to arrive at your destination by a certain time? Are you subject to pressure? Then there's certification....are you instrument rated? Current? If you're VFR only and it's cloudy you're fricked.

I still want to own a plane some day, but flying would have the be the goal, not a traveling tool.

When your company is big enough to staff two full-time pilots, it's a whole different ball game.

flying private is a huge advantage in travel to places that you can’t fly commercial or you’d have to take multiple flights to

for example my brother is a pilot he lives in palacios TX. He can fly home from bay city to BR or to our place in AR or to our camp near patterson in a fraction of the time it would take to drive

he’s flown from Gonzales to Belize before though and said it would have been better to fly commercial

Honestly anytime you fly international it’s almost easier to fly commercial. I’ve flown with a well known YT influencer on a TBM to the Bahamas and it’s fairly easy there, but from what I’ve heard outside the Caribbean it’s a pain.

You're not wrong, but most of us never travel to places you can't get to via commercial. And again, weather, ratings, cost etc add up.

Flying private is fun, it's just not as advantageous as it seems it should be.
