As a native Nashvillian, I wouldn't call it a rivalry, but there is definitely some back and forth said between the two cities. Memphis is deep south while Nashville is midsouth. It's a pretty big cultural difference between the two. We do team up together in the state government, but outside of that we jokingly make some snide remarks about each other. I can have a good time in Memphis, but I'd never live there.

We just need the tent cities and we will be right there with them.

Grew up in Collierville. People in the Memphis burbs are generally more friendly than those in Nashville. With that being said, Nashville > Memphis and it isn’t close. Memphis is a bigger version of Jackson with blues and barbecue.

Nashville skyline looks absolutely nothing like that now. Probably 20-30 more buildings. It’s unrecognizable.

The demographics will never be like that. Headed more towards an Austin than Atlanta.

Which isn’t good either, but I’d rather the former by a mile.

Nashville has a lot going for it but culturally it's turning into Ohio.

I prefer Memphis.

Nashville has since surpassed Memphis and is probably going to rival Atlanta in a decade or so.

Keep dreaming. Metro Nashville has less than a third the population go metro Atlanta.

Two of those skyscrapers in Memphis are abandoned, and at least one is condemned. Don’t think Nashville (or Baton Rouge) has any like that.

Sounds like New Orleans would be the better comparison to Memphis.

..and economic mobility for white collar employees.

Memphis has more Fortune 500 companies than the entire state of Mississippi or Louisiana.

Yeah most of the Memphis natives I know never met someone they didn’t like. It has to be one of the friendliest cities in the country.

I don't know how long ago you lived there, but this isn't even remotely true.

Being from North La, and working in Memphis alot over the past few years, I always got the impression the rest of Tennessee treated Memphis like how we were treated growing up. The rest of the state doesn't want to claim you unless it's convenient for them

I love going to Nashville for concerts and the occasional sporting event.

I love going out in Memphis.

I love going to Jackson, MS. I can even have fun in Dayton, OH.

Places don't suck, people do.

I don't know a bout Nashville but Memphis has a lot of good places to eat. My cousin who lives in Horn Lakes takes me to these places each time I visit and I have yet to be disappointed.

Riding out a tornado warning in the basement here in Chicago.

This weather makes me feel like we are back in Collierville again.

I'm in Germantown. I have tornado siren about a block from the house.

It hurts your ears if you are outside when it goes off.

No need to worry bout tornados in Mid-south unless you are in Mississippi burbs or Millington/Arlington area. Occasional close calls but Shelby county rarely has one touch the ground. Good luck brother and stay safe.

When I moved to Memphis many years ago I lived at hunters trace apts right off Kirby on second floor. The siren was in the parking lot facing my bedroom window. Was awful when they tested them. I learned the exact time they would go off and would plan ahead to be away.
