The time it takes to make a great gumbo makes it not overrated, you eat it from a can then yeah Chunky’s gumbo is overrated.

As much as it’s eaten, Ramen noodles are overrated. People think they accomplish cooking by making this simplicity.

Probably costs me $50+ and 4-6 hours of my time to make a gumbo. Could spend less with more time (stock)

And to the OP, good gumbo is one of the better dishes I can even think of

If it’s not started by a mother roux, it’s usually fine. And leave the red beans and rice out of this.

It’s not overrated when combined with TDs in the fall.

Or tiddies.

It’s the absolute best soup for a cold or cool or hot and humid day ever IMO.

Now, is it a bit taken over the top? Probably, it’s just that people take it really really serious around here, and I’d say it’s without a doubt my favorite local cuisine, except maybe a really really good shrimp poboy. Now, give me a half a shrimp poboy, and a cup of chicken and andouille gumbo for lunch and I’m another man. Life changing.

Or, something you don't like but many others do.

Weird topic to get your panties in a bunch over.

what the hell is the point of okra? just dumb.

The dish was likely named after one of its two main ingredients, okra or filé. In the Niger–Congo languages spoken by many slaves from West Africa, the vegetable okra was known as ki ngombo or quingombo; the word is akin to the Umbunduochinggômbo and the Tshiluba chinggômbô"okra". In the language of the native Choctawpeople, filé, or ground sassafras leaves, was called kombo[/b]

The food board snobs were fetishizing pimento cheese sandwiches the other day.
