If I’m a credit card company, and I see a woman with decent credit, I’m offering her a large line of credit. They spend.

Best answer from Twitter comments:

“She is more likely to stay in debt.”

They’ll earn a buttload more in interest from her. He has the means to just pay it off.

Is there a check box for male and female when applying for a card? Next time, I should accidentally check off female and see if I get a larger limit.

That’s because a lot of men grew up around men who thought credit cards were for emergency only… I clearly remember my uncle asking his wife “why put it on credit if you got the money to pay”

Don’t these financial institutions know gender is just a social construct?

I treat my credit card like a debit card. Ensuring it never gets over 10% utilization. Paying before it is due. Reason being is that I get 3%-5% cash back. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s paid for all of my Christmas shopping and more every year.

It could be the number of cards he has.

As someone who works in finance/consumer lending, he's gotta be leaving out some detail like amount of open accounts or % of credit usage. Sex is a factor for insurance, not lending. That is pretty illegal.

Depends on the card but Cap 1 for example is more prone to issue cards to more people with higher limits that have a history of accruing interest.

My credit score is 826 (FICO) and I recently got flat out denied for a Cap 1 Venture.
