Is The Word "Smart" Overused?

There is this older woman who lives down the road from me. She is a nice person and she always talks about her grandson, but the one thing she always says is "he is a really smart little boy". When she says it, I always wonder what does the kid do that makes him "really smart".
I have an aunt who does the same thing. She has several grandkids and its almost as if she is trying to convince everyone they are smart. She will say something one of them did (most of the time its nothing special) and then say "he/she is smart of his/her age"...
How common is it for people to say their kid, grandkids, etc are smart?

You could simply Google this before posting it. God, be smart.

Here it all the time. Hate it. But no parent is gonna admit their kid is a dumbass, just as they most likely perceive themselves to be smart.

I know parents are not going to say "my kid, that is a dumb little bastard", but they don't have to go out of their way to say "my kid is really smart".

No one has ever accused me of being smart. I am your typical dumbass.

This is funny. The fact that your avatar has induced me to read all your comments in Sheldon's voice makes it hilarious.

I wish I could place odds on what he does for a living. Call center rep is where I'd place my bets.

Exactly.. A if a kid does something they are suppose to do at whatever age they are, they are being told "you are smart".

I get paid to highlight people's receipts when they leave the store. We don't really have to check them, but it makes us feel good to highlight the receipt.
