We thought about doing that when we retired. We were going to build a small house near the lake and get a 5th wheel camper to pull behind my Duramax. Before we started building, we found a house we loved on the lake and bought it instead.

Now I wouldn’t mind having a camper for big trips when we retire, or for company or the kids to stay in when they visit, but I’m pretty happy just sitting at the house on the back porch watching the waves lap against the dock. Don’t really care too much about going anywhere.

RVing did interest me and the wife before our move though. Touring the US would be fun.

A friend's widowed mother and step father bought a top of the line one. Went on a one year journey. Spent over a million and a quarter dollars (we're guessing they didn't miss many casinos).
Came home a lot poorer, sold the monstrosity and expected to die within the year. One of them didn't, but had spent almost all of her savings. Ended up sponging off her children for 15 years as the kids moved from rental to rental because they couldn't buy a house nor could they ask her to help out.

It’s a house on wheels that bounces around a lot. Most coaches aren’t designed for spending time outside of the front seats while driving.

If you like to work on things you will be fine.

If you rely on someone else to do every minor repair around your house now, don’t do it. Carry a lot of tools with you.

Some family friends did this for the better part of a decade. Would probably still be doing it but the wife had some health issues. Sold their home when the husband retired, bought a bad arse RV, and hit the road. They’ve seen everything in this country and most more than once.

Only thing that seems like a drawback is RVs constantly have issues. You’re always having something fixed or dealing with something that isn’t working. This was a high end rig too.

Make a budget and add 40 grand to it.

Ask me any questions - I love RVs

Also - YouTube has an enormous vault of RV video resources that are really good for full time and weekend RVers.

It is tough finding a good deal on a F350 or higher truck right now - keep that in mind.

I am really liking Alliance RV quality and price point.

There are tons of negatives - but for many people it works.

Stay away from the far end of the Disney RV park - it floods.

I don’t see the appeal to be honest.
