re: Is the old saying that your body eliminates 1 alcoholic beverage per hour really accurate?

Oh it's true. It happens about 2 minutes after the time the cop tells ya to blow into the breathalyzer though. Until then your liver is just waiting on standby.
Ya see the liver is triggered by the combo red and blue lights on the cops light bar. That's why it never happens while at the club where they use either red or blue, but not both at the same time. Thus the reason you get nailed for DUI leaving the club but are sober when the cop gets ya into the cell with Bubba and Cleofus.

Sir...are you drunk right now?

Maybe for a 120 lb chick. I can have about 5 and be below .08
5 beers in an hour? You better not blow, because unless you're about 400 lbs, you're going to be above 0.08.

That is a fairly rough guide, and I would say it varies pretty widely based on activity of a couple of enzymes (two that play a major part, and I would imagine a number more that play a minor role), and some other factors. I think that elimination is linear (rate doesn't depend on serum concentration of the drug) until a certain point, then If one reaches a point where the two main enzymes systems are saturated, then this is pretty much going out the window, but on average, I would suggest most normal sized adults can metabolize and mostly eliminate one drink an hour. This is probably an over simplification, but it's been 27 years since I took pharmacology in med school.

This. The 1 drink per hour metabolized works until the enzymes that metabolize the alcohol get overwhelmed. Then it slows as the body has to produce more enzymes to continue the metabolic processes.

FTR I rarely have more than one drink. The only time I ever had to blow, I blew less than .02. Cop pulled me over because the idiots I was driving around freaked out when they saw a cop. I was the DD for a bachelor party. We still talk about that

I drank a fifth of beam at a party once within 3 hours and passed a breathalyzer with .06.
But I'm a big guy at 6'6 280. It takes at least a fifth of bourbon for me to really even feel a good buzz. Beer is pointless I'll run out of hours of the night before beer gets me drunk.

Yes, but it can vary. A person with a lot more body weight or a faster metabolism can absorb the alcohol faster and get rid of it faster.

Not true. Not true at all. You would be sober as a tick if you drank at that rate.
