Yep, the victims are often the dipshits who get too drunk and wander out of the tourist areas. Easy targets.

Well that is idiotic

I've personally never really felt unsafe in the quarter, but I know the area and tend to avoid bourbon street late.

I tend to walk down royal street crossing in front of the police station when I want to go to Pat O's. During the day it is def safe

absolutely not after the sun goes down. During the day you should be fine.

During the day, it is safe. I wouldn't really walk around by myself past 10pm or so.

ETA: probably wouldn't want to walk around much past dark by myself.

Not safe by normal city standards and certainly not one of the safest spots in the city

Go there a lot in the day time and a few times after the sun had gone down. Never had a single problem.

If you had to rank the top 5 safest spots in the city would the French Quarter make your list?

Bourbon St, Royal, Chartres and Decatur, yes. Dauphine, Burgundy, Rampart.. Hell No.

Much easier to just say "I bet you do." That has always shut them up for me.

frick the Quarter. Despite the NOPD being heavily concentrated there, bums and thugs still constantly harass tourists. I'd say it's one of the more dangerous areas of the city after midnight as a lot of thugs go there to prey on drunk tourists. Uptown/Garden District, Irish Channel, Lakeview, Algiers Point, Mid City, Marigny, and Broadmoor are all safer. Hell, I felt safer in Treme when I was last in Nola.

Less safe now.

I've been to French Quarter a hundred times and for the first time early this year I was assaulted. A drunk blind sided me from behind because I told him I didn't like the way he was staring at my wife.

This was 9:30pm as we were walking to the car.

Police presence is a joke for sure. State police is helping out but there's a vast difference in amount of patrols since 2011/2012 as NOPD has been gutted.

You left our the safest part.... The Warehouse District.

Uptown, especially Magazine St. is getting better and better and wasn't bad before. They've pretty much gentrified the trash away from there now.

Nope, I'd say the neighborhoods just outside of the French Quarter are the worst. The closer you get to Rampart or MLK Blvd., the worse the crime gets.

Seems like there's a story every other week about a shooting in the quarter.
