Pirates Cove is the best beach bar in the south, but I guess it isn't technically on the Gulf

I grew up with the brothers that own it. They inherited it at a young age and could have cashed out and led an easier life. To their credit they've put a lot of sweat into it the past 25-ish years and still do.

It is good to see the actual best area on the gulf not even mentioned. I'm talking about very uncrowded beaches and at times, no one is on the beach in sight. You can smoke weed and drink in peace and enjoy the beaches. Body boarding is nice too.
I guess you're either taking about SGI or somewhere south of the panhandle

As long as it doesn't turn into what became of the Florabama & LuLu's, I'll be happy.

I went pre Ivan or Charlie (sorry can’t remember which one fricked that area) by about 1-2 months. Wife and I were there on a Sunday. It was awesome, but all depends on mood. I was looking to drink a few beers, people watch, and listen to live music.

After 30 mins I told my wife she was in charge. She will have to tell me to shut it down because I was ready to go til 2.

We left about 11:30. By then we had seen 2 separate live acts at the same time. One upstairs and one in the inside bar area. Saw a girl laying on a picnic bench vomiting by 10. Saw a girl inside drop her pants to show somebody her panties. She I believe was so smashed she forgot she had none. Stood there a full 30 seconds bottomless. Amazing thing was she was actually an “OT 6” probably. The night ended with a guy about 20 making out at/on the bar with a bar lizard who had to be 40.

Again, it’s all about your mood. That night is either funny AF or the trashiest thing ever. My mood was perfect. I laughed all night.

That was also when they had the deck that went all the way to the beach. Which was cool.

If you consider best to be where trashy people congregate to get drunk and have meaningless chatter...

Let the kids have fun in the bar in the shade. We'll promis to keep it down so you can concentrate on your paperback novels.

It used to be a locals-only spot...so in a sense they are closer to the FB now than still being a locals bar.

Luckily it is a pain in the arse to drive there & there aren't any condos nearby so that limits some of the vacationing trash that floods in every summer.

Truth. And let me just say, the Cove can become whatever the owners want it to be, I'm not bashing them for not being local anymore...they deserve to make money as they feel best.

I love Pirate's Cove but in my experience it isn't exactly immune from trash

Oh there is plenty of trash, just not near the amount that is at Florabama.

Flora Bama is like a bar crossed with a haunted house. It’s this endless maze of rooms, and every once in a while someone will be waiting in a corner or a window, but instead of scaring you they are selling cheap beer.

The B&A owner wants to open the private beaches to his county commissioner buddies. Living here, I can tell you he is not highly thought of.
