That is wrong. Education and healthcare are the two things that are always on the block. Not the over bloated state payroll. It is fricking comical.

I said it is wrong. Education is always on the block. The constitution of our state is so fricked up.

That was supposed to be Jennings. IRL, none of it was shot in Acadiana.

We're talking about subsidies for the Film Industry.

State collects $240m to $300m in corporate income taxes (not including franchise taxes). This means you could eliminate 70% to 90% of corporate income taxes across the board for what we put into the film industry. You don't think THAT would have a positive economic impact?

In 2012 it was $290m. LINK

In 2013 it was $252m. LINK

Yep. But, come on. The one bugaboo that no one discusses. It really is why we are fricked. The overlap in state services, the overlap in employees are the huge money gap in all budget discussions. We are fricked, and the budget will never change because not one person has the courage to stand up and change the complete bullshite that is our state.

Too many king makers pulling the strings. They will never relinquish their power.

Yet here you are saying that the state must spend money subsidizing Green Lantern. You're embarrassing yourself.

I agree that the state should be better in terms of paying for legit stuff. You get no argument from me. The most embarrassing thing is we have so many state employees. Can you answer that? A lot more of your money goes to their healthcare and retirement benefits than any subsidy for the movie industry. This really isn't a debate.

Then how about you come up with a plan to actually do away with the state corporate income tax? How about instead of just saying end the film tax credit which will drive the movie industry away, you come up with a solution that would keep them and save the state some money? You want to end the tax credits come up with a plan that can show the movie industy or anyother industry the state of Louisiana is still a good place to do business and you plan is good for everyone. Without those tax credits wtf does Louisiana have to offer? A fat and lazy population, long history of corruption, horrible public school, crumbling infastructure, one of the most complex tax codes in the country, and a labor force that forbes ranked as 41/50. That is not going to attract any business. We can't fix any of those things with out attracting new business and jobs to the state. It is a real catch 22, so how in the hell do any of you anti-film tax credit ppl plan on doing that? IBF and others on the politcal talk board have bitched and moaned for years but never once presented any type of plan. They just say we got to cut this subsidy, revoke this exemption, have Texas's tax and regulatory enviroment etc but they never have any type of plan on how to get there or deal with the blowback and/or concerns from the industry and idividauls affected. Not being able to explain or present a real plan is what cost Romney the election in '12 and not having a sound plan is what caused Jindal's tax reform to fail in 2013. I think we all learned from the Obamacare bullshite we can't pass a bill to see whats in it.

It is like yall want Louisiana to stay the worthless POS state that it has been for the last 50 years or so. Yall don't care if we subsidize students tuition only to have them pack up and head to Tejas, Atl, or some other state. You bitch about subsdizing movies at the cost of education, but hell atleast the state of La gets something out of the deal. When pay the tuition for an UNO, ULL, LSU etc grad and they pack their arses up and move the Houston the day after graduation the state gets nothing. The film tax credits are part of the governement programs that have helped keep Louisiana grads in Louisiana and help expand our economic base.

Eliminating just because the lobbyists is a prick that is the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face. However, we can't afford to keep giving away money like we have the last few years and that is why we needed to reform and cap the program. $180 million cap is fair and will save the state ~$90 million/yr. If the film industry gets pissy and threatens to walk away hold and/or sues, the state just needs to hold its ground, call their bluff and say see you in court. If the film industry actually does get pissy and walk away frick 'em they are just screwing themselves. They can't go back to California or any other blue state and walking away because Louisiana reformed the program will make the other state like Ga open their eyes and the movie industry will be SOL.

Abolish the subsidy program since it isn't a good idea nor is it a necessary function of government.

That wasn't hard.

Well shite. The state should give me a few hundred million. I mean, a lot more is spent on other things so by your logic, that means it's all good.

Yes. Are you saying the film industry provides no benefits to the state? How do you convince anyone who rents a house to the movie ppl, sell them lunch, etc that the negative impact to them is worth it or are you just wanting to screw them over because you don't think it is fair?

Having a government that interferes with the markets and subsidizes Green Lantern does not provide benefits to the state. Sorry.

I don't have to convince people not to be on welfare. I simply want to end the welfare. I would ask that if you want to rent to people or make them a sammich then you should pay for it with your own money and not mine.

So basically you pissed because you don't get any money and you don't think it is fair? I don't think it is fair that my taxes were raised by the legislature because LSU didn't want to raise tuition on its students even though they have an average student loan debt half that of the nation's average. Especially when they pack their arse up and head to houston, dallas, or atl the day after graduation.
