The ideal situation is to spend summers up north, and winters down south.

more people die in cold weather.

I never sat outside in my backyard and died because it was hot, but people freeze to death doing that.

Also, winter brings dry skin and runny noses for me. People also get mad when you point out diff things grow in diff climates. I like my warm weather fruits.

I get that a lot of people prefer cold, but from a survivability standpoint, hot is better. I will have a better chance of survival in hot climates on this planet v/s extreme cold.
Exactly.

In the extreme case of a prolonged nationwide power outage, the people up north are gonna be up shite creek, burning their furniture in the winter time to stay warm and I’ll be in my house wearing pajama pants and a sweatshirt and be comfortable as hell.

Propane and firewood exist. Can’t do much to stay cool down south with no power

Ask any survival expert if they’d rather be stuck up north or down south in a survival situation.

True if you are thrown out in the woods in a Naked and Afraid type situation. But if you are talking about a societal collapse type situation, as long as you have an existing shelter we are in much better shape up north. Endless supply of wood to gather during the summer for winter heat, crops may not grow in winter, but the summer abundance can be stored much easier for long durations in a root cellar. Plus I am in mid-construction of a 12x24 solar powered green house with geo-thermal heating...so I will be able to grow all year round starting next year. Any animals I kill are basically kept frozen and preserved all through winter in an outdoor shed and then can be smoked for preservation when it starts warming up. Plus, some major benefits of the north vs. south for survival is plentiful access to good clean water, no bugs and low disease probability for half the year and where I am in Vermont...no human predators! We have black bears, moose and summer ticks as the only real dangers and fairly easy to avoid. Down south dangerous animals are in abundance, especially the mosquito! I may have already thought about a lot of this before choosing to move here

I’d much rather be in a cold environment. You can’t take more clothes off when it’s hot as hall.

In cities with extremely cold climates, the snow and ice can completely change the way you live, more so than in extremely hot climate.
Shoveling your sidewalks and driveways, plus de-icing your car, etc. are an extreme pain in the arse. Most people that I know in Minnesota have a snow or a wet room, to shake off the snow and remove your boots, etc. And then, there's driving on icy roads. I'll take extreme heat over extreme cold anytime.

There's a big difference from midwest cold and Rocky Mountains cold.
The midwest just sucks. period.

There are parts of colorado that get around 200 inches of snow, like Aspen/Breckenridge/Vail, and then you have the more southern parts that get much much less. Durango sees around 60-70 inches of snow, and Colorado Springs, Buena Vista, Canon City see under 40 inches of snow.

Buena Vista sees about 40" of snow and has average lows in the teens in Jan/Feb. Not much skiing to do there but you're an hour from Breckenridge and their 200" of snow.

I'd much rather the year round climate of Buena Vista than hot and humid as frick Baton Rouge, not to mention the fact that I won't be surrounded by criminals on a daily basis.

Lived in Laramie for about a year back in 07-08. Loved everything about it except the strong winds blowing while snowing. It's like driving in really dense fog and the fog is blowing across your hood at 60mph.

I'd never live somewheres that you gotta shovel snow.

This is really overblown. I've shoveled maybe 3 times in 3 years only after really big storms. 99% of the time you can just drive through it and the only reason to shovel is if you live in a neighborhood and just being courteous for pedestrians

Cold sucks. I enjoy summers. Most people are just too fat to be hot.

I have been in Iowa almost four years

I am moving to Iowa City the first of October.

Cold doesn't bother me much. I have worked Wyoming and Montana during the winter and lived in SLC since 2014. While SLC does not get cold, I could not stand snow in May. I had that at my house the last 4 years.

What I hear is yes, Iowa gets colder than SLC, but it does not last as long. I am told Iowa has 4 seasons. Utah, where I lived, had summer, short fall, long winter and some schizo season between late March and late May where it tempted you with slightly warmer weather just to dump a winter storm on you the next day.
