...when coming from I-10 west and trying to get through Baton Rouge? The last 5 times I've had to do this regardless of what was or wasn't going on, I've had to backtrack to the Grosse Tete exit and get to 190 to cross the bridge. Is this just the new norm now?

No, but heavy traffic days will lead people to go a different route.
Who knew?

Oh and quit causing congestion on my side of the River. 190 in WBR is for local traffic only

I've been going from BR to Ft. Worth several times each year since the early '90s, and I've always preferred to exit I-10 at 415, go North to 190 and take it to Opelousas.

I often get off 10 at 415 and take the Huey Long bridge into town.

Yes. I have to be in a pretty good mood to even attempt I-10 now.

I live in Lafayette and work at the BR airport, 190 every time. The only question is do I go up I-49 or take I-10 to lobdell. Either way I don't ever get on the "new" bridge unless it's before 6 AM or after 9 PM.

Because it's 20 miles shorter?

That's what you're supposed to do when heading north.

Yes. I know. That's precisely why I've always done it.

When returning from Laffy during the day I always take 190. Been doing this for 5 or 6 years now, much less traffic, 20 minutes faster than I-10 most days.

If by new, you mean I have been doing that since I49 opened, then yes
